I took my 15 year old son to a public library in a US city to apply for a US passport. The whole process was so simple and transparent. When we completed, I told him if it were in Ghana, all the agents would be finding ways of extorting money from us. He could not believe what I told him. When I saw this news item, I sent it to him to read for himself. Poor Ghana.

It is sad. I went to the passport office in Accra and I saw people sweating profusely and others chased out as though they are criminals because they didn't have a middleman holding their hands or were not in suit in the suns ...

To most Ghanaians, acquiring a passport is seen as something prestigious, hence the high demand for passport whether an applicant is travelling or not. As a result, the system is clogged up with frivolous applications. If only people who need passports apply for them, there won't be the need for the process to require the services of a middleman, or delays in obtaining the passport within a reasonable amount of time.

because i have just been denied of entering the compound of the passport office after joining the queue since 4:00am just because i did not have a certificate to my profession attached to the form. I suggest it is stated emphatically on the forms the document really need and not leave it open for any GATE MAN not to think he knows more than you do. WHAT A MESS
