How many of the teachers remained in the country to servea after the end of their course in the first place? You people should stop this nonsense all of the time. If you think the lies Bawumia told you would work, then you are decieving yourselves. Where are they going to get the money to pay you? There is no country in the world where such allowances are given.The students take loans to take care of such things. You people should get a life and stop this nonsense once and for all.

They struggled to make the grades even to the relatively "lower tertiary level" and yet they want to take the Country to ransom.Who cares? These come out and their performance in the Public Schools where they are mostly posted reflect in the results of the pupils they churn out. Let them pay for their own education and after that, let them struggle to find private schools to teach.

Amoako Boadu, don't say what you don't know. I used to teach Social Studies at the Teacher Training level and many of my students had qualifications better than those who were at the universities. Some even had "A"s and "B"s at the GCE Advanced but chose to come to Teacher Training colleges because of the allowances given them. Others at that time did so they can have study leave with pay after teaching for some years.
Do you blame teachers for poor performance of students? If you pretend to pay workers, they also pretend to work. Ask communist countries and the citizens will tell you that. Our Basic schools simply do not have the teaching and learning materials. Rich people can take their children to private schools because such schools happen to have what it takes to teach and learn.

Annor, the students have a case. If the students are given loans and are considered tertiary institutions, then they have not much of a case. However, if the students have to find money to pay for their fees on their own, then that is a problem. Who guarantees their loans for the banks to loan out money to them?
Also, remember that after school, they are not paid on time for them to pay off their loans which continue to attract interest. Ask yourself how many teachers who graduated in the past two years are paid on time.
With regard to teachers not staying in the country to teach, that is the problem of the government. Everybody wants greener pastures. If they are not paid on time after school, what do you expect them to do. Teachers were given a raw deal during the Single Spine Salary Structure.
Finally, let me tell you that there are some schools in some parts in the world world where students don't pay fees. Where they do, many of the students can afford because they can even get work while in High school. Don't tell me you don't know that.

The problem is government of Ghana allows the greedy principals and teachers to take advantage of the students allowance to introduce all kinds of dubious fees including making it mandatory for students to purchase pamphlets before they could pass their exams and now that fees have increased you decided to remove the allowance that has been there for decades passing through at least four governments without a problem.
They should either stop or limit the purchase of those luxury expensive cars and foolish things such as pads for girls that they didn't even need to pay the allowance.
If all the past governments including a military government that introduced it why they can't pay,even at this time that we have oil?
Some of us didn't enjoy allowance while in training college but we feel its removable is wrong.
This is not about politics but doing the right thing,there is no justification for removing the allowance,too much politics with the educational system is affecting educational standard.
