  Why did the mother not go for the items herself? Why send a vulnerable girl to a man ALONE? And what kind of items were involved? I suspect that the mother was in love with this man and is punishing him for dumping her for his daughter. And the convict is also being exposed because he became jealous over the girl's relationships with other males.
