I admit it's quite hard on Ghanaians, but considering the fact that a litre of petrol costs between £1.16 and £1.21 in the UK, Ghanaians are still a bit better off. I know guys would start a verbal war after reading this, claiming that those in the UK, based on their income and terms of trade are still able to afford than Ghanaians. Yes, I agree. But considering the fact that we all buy the commodity at the same price plus extra transaction costs, it costs more to import the commodity to Ghana, than to the UK. If TOR was not run-down, we could at least buy crude and refine at home. But many years of neglect is what had landed us in this unsavoury situation.

After reading through your piece, I can boldly deduce you are intellectually deficient. How much is the minimum wage in UK now. I believe per an hour wage is far more than a whole day's , I mean an eight hour wage in Ghana, if I'm not exaggerating.

It baffles and particularly gets on my nerves when we do compare ourselves to the advance nations when it comes into issues like these.

Yet we do not educate our leaders to emulate the very good examples of the leaders of these advance countries. They are selfless, considerate, put the ordinary people first even though they all have their agendas.

Bro, I've lived in the States just for 5 years, and I can tell you the vast difference between our leaders and the leaders back home.

In the States even the so called the ordinary people have access to free telephone lines, healthcare, housing, at least get some little cash into your pockets when you unemployed. Do our leaders think about these? No. All they think is stealing our monies and to enrich themselves.

It is very pity.

In 1989, the so-called “Washington Consensus” was formulated. It claimed to lead to global freedom, prosperity and economic growth through “deregulation, liberalization and privatization”.
