Dr. Arthur K. Kennedy, a former scribe and Presidential hopeful of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a damning statement on how the NPP protects drug dealers and people of questionable characters.

“Personally, I have never used or sold illegal drugs. I do not even smoke. Why would anyone want to expel me when others who have committed all these infractions are members of the NPP in good standing?”

Dr. Kennedy, noted for his blunt criticisms of his party (the NPP), exposed how the NPP has given preferential treatment to individuals who have embezzled party resources, saying these individuals had kept party supplies in their house to be sold for themselves “while party workers lacked material for the party’s work.”

Dr. Arthur Kennedy, who is currently based in the US, was reacting to last week’s call for his dismissal from the main opposition party by Dr. Amoako Baah, an NPP-centric Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Apparently, Dr. Arthur Kennedy had spilled the beans on an insidious plan by Nana Akufo-Addo- the Presidential candidate of the NPP- to cause the ouster of the National Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong for what he believed were their opposition to his presidential ambition.

Dr. Kennedy was described by Dr. Baah as a “Cancer” in the party. “They should expel him from the party. It does not matter the so-called Alan camp, Kufuor camp, he is a cancer in the party that must be removed,” stated Dr. Baah, prompting a rather damning response from Dr. Kennedy who knows the inner workings of the NPP.

Dr. Arthur Kennedy’s statement further emphasizes criticisms of the NPP that it had a soft-spot for drug dealers and people with unscrupulous characters.

The NPP and some of its members have been linked with illicit drug usage and trade in the past, with incidence such as the bursting of one of its sitting MPs-Joseph Amoateng- who was trying to spirit drugs into the USA and the alleged busting of Akufo-Addo at the Heathrow Airport for possessing some quantities of Marijuana believed to be his personal cache.

It has been alleged that the NPP keeps a close association with drug kingpins who significantly contribute to the presidential campaigns of the party. Indeed, sources have reported that the party depends heavily on drug cash and always protects its drug kingpins.

For instance, the NPP MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong, publicly admitted that one David Anim, the owner of Le Baron Hotel in Accra was a financier of the party. David Anim was recently busted at the Heathrow Airport in London, after drug agencies trailing him linked him at the top of a notorious drug trafficking cartel across Europe and America.

Last year, Joseph Amoateng, an NPP Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North received a hero’s welcome by the party after serving almost a 10-year jail term in a US prison for attempting to smuggle huge cache of narcotic drugs into the US in 2007.

There is also the unresolved allegations that the NPP’s three-time flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was reportedly busted at the Heathrow Airport for possessing some quantities of Marijuana believed to be his personal cache.

The NPP is constantly being haunted by Akua Afriyie and the three NPP Dzorwulu branch women who were mysteriously spirited out of the country after being nabbed in February 2002 for trafficking in narcotic drugs.

The three women who were part of the Dzowulu NPP executives were arrested in Ghana during the tenure of Akufo-Addo as the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice. The NPP and the then Attorney General have been accused of allegedly aiding the three disappeared “drug queens” from the opposition party ranks to be spirited out of the country without facing drug-related trial.

The NPP is currently engulfed in serious in-fighting, and Dr. Kennedy’s expose is one of numerous expose made by aggrieved persons in the party in the past few weeks, including the General Secretary of the party, who have warned a group associated with the flagbearer, Akufo Addo to dare him to expose serious secrets of the party.
