I will advise Dr Kennedy to read 1Samuel 16 to 2Sam2 to estimate the length of time between the annointing of David as king of Israel and the actual crowning. There were several opportuninities for David to get the kingdom earlier but he strongly resisted these temptations! Eventually the appointed time of God came and he did his job to the aproval of God. My advise to you is " Be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger(James 1:19-20)
