If you want to know the brains behind the killing of the two American citizens in Akosombo then read this. According to the story" The two who are leaders of the African American community in Akwamu were recently accused by the Chieftaincy Minister, Dr. Seidu Danaa, of illegally acting as chiefs."
"Private legal practitioner, Samson Lardy Anyenini late last year brought a suit on behalf of the leaders and against the Chieftaincy Minister whom they alleged had supported one Osofo to mistreat them using national security.

The Osofo was named in the suit as claiming right to the symbolic stool and skin created by the national house of chiefs to reintegrate disaporians.

Samson says that suit was withdrawn earlier this year after the Attorney-General (A-G) called for an amicable settlement."
The question is if the government has declared the status of the US citizens as an illegality, why did the Attorney General beg that the issue should be withdrawn from court. The answer is simple. Withdraw the case, kill the Afro Americans and case die.

its very simple..... the ministry should just absorb the unemployed graduates to fill the 40.000 vacancies as stated by the minister because we all received students loans when we were at the university and if the teacher trainees will not accept the same offer then they should equally demonstrate against the tertiary status they are about to enjoy as well.....i am very sorry to inform my good brothers and sisters at the teacher training collages that, there is no aspect of the 1992 constitution that gives them any mandate to enjoy allowances. therefore have failed totally, hence i will personally push for the withdrawal of even their feeding as well.they can burn the sea for i care not.Are they better than the other tertiary students or what? WHAT AT ALL ARE TEACHING?

Looking at the way the country is broke and the mismanagement and corruption going on, this alawa thing is not sustainable and could be counter productive.Honestly I wish it is not but the truth is "IT IS !!!/
However looking at the salary of teachers in this country it is also not fair for these trainees to acquire loans only to get an education which limits you literally to employment by the government with "peanut" wages as we have now.Remember it is the duty of government to educate Ghanaians up to at least the SSS level. Fine

My solution:Yes lets scrap the alawa and replace it with the loan system.
After graduation, trainees who are willing to be posted to areas of extreme need and teacher shortages and certain deprived areas for a number of years can have their loans forgiven. These areas of deprivation should be clearly marked blue print map and should be seriously and competently managed under the the MOE.
it sounds like a good middle ground approach but yet again I am so sure if corruption will make it work.

Like I have said somewhere I can give a 1000 things we can do as country to make a our lives better and in the same breadth i can give you a 1001 reasons why they might not work due to corruption, dishonest public officials and populace that's so .............

The university students pay fee yearly but we pay every semister. This students loan is not always enough for our bills. Given even the 1,600 cedis every year it wouldnt be enough. We plead with the ministry and government to do something about it our allowance for us. Our fees are now too much for us. Our tertiary institutions are given national service allowance mouthly for a year. We at colleges of education will not be given anything of that sort. Please prez. Mahama, do something for us we beg.

When it comes issues like this, leave it for teachers like us to talk. As much as scrapping of allowance had increased enrollment, it had also kept some talents in the house. I had admission at KNUST in 2010 to offer Bsc. Biochemistry but I turned out to be a teacher trainee at PTC because my parents couldn't afford the fees charged at the university. If it wasn't the allowance paid at colleges, I would have still been in the house. stop leap and channel it to pay allowance for trainees. At least providing poor people with highly motivated teachers, is better than giving them money to buy food.

Some people think that Alawa is a motivating factor, but this has rather lowered education forthe past years. Wrong people are admitted for training. To get the right people, let them choose to be teachers, and then they will not just count on money.

Gov't took a good decision to srcap alawa as this will ensure the right people who are interested in teaching are trained. Many people go to COEs just b/c of alawa, not b/c they choose the profession. For the past years, recruitment was marred with "corruption" as many who slept outside the COEs to buy the entry forms never got the chance. Instead, vacancies were filled by those "known" to the principals. We should be realistic about this issue: Alawa will never improve teacher Education!!
Those making noise just want MONEY, and that is unfortunate!

If article 847 suggested that CoE are tertiary then PRINCOF should decide on giving trainees their balance of self paid feeding fees.also they should expect trainees do behave like tertiary students meaning no devotions,uniforms,dining,weeding etc.one day we shall all pay for our stomach leadership.
