just quoting figures in the us and europe about minimum salaries is just as ridiculous. yes the pay is higher but so are the taxes, the roads etc. plus most pay taxes, ghanaians steal taxes.

He is also arrogant and in his attempt to justify the price rise in petroleum products has actually alienated a good number of us who have been NDC sympathisers. He seems to have been out of touch with realities. When the cost of crude on the world market fell from $115 a barrel to $48 a barrels did the NPA reduce the prices of petroleum products to match downward adjustment of the cost of crude oil on the world market? First of all they lied that they owed $ 400m to BDC. In January they claimed to have cleared that debt and threw dust into the face of Ghanaians by reducing the cost of fuel by 10%. From January till May, has the Company not accumulated enough from the windfall to buffer any increases in the world market of petroleum products? By the way what has happened to TOR and you have to order Petroleum products from Germany? Comparing Ghana to Germany and Britain in economy is to say the least betraying one's crass ignorance or stupidity. Mr. Asaga should be removed from this office because of his arrogance.

You cannot continue ro subsidise everything without borrowing to pay for it. We should move to pure cost recovery, ler the markets determine the prices. The most affected by this increase are car owners mostly middle cars who dont live on minimum wage. GPRTU has announced that there will be no transport fare increases meaning the minimum wage earners will not be affected. Basing the number of gallons one can buy per country purely on minimum wage is cheap politics even though I agree that the CEO's posture smacks arrogance. These parties shd know that there still independent remnant thinkers watching. Think about Ghana first!!

The NPA since the downward adjustment of crude oil on the world Market, informed us, it was not going to reduce prices of petroleum product because it owed the BDC some $400m. Ghanaians bore with the NPA and paid what was charged. In By December 2014 we were informed that the debt was cleared. In early January despite the drastic fall in the price of crude on the world market, NPA only reduced the cost of petroleum products in Ghana by 10%. All pleas for a further reduction fell on deaf ears. Meanwhile the NPA must have accumulated a huge amount from the windfall. Would this not be enough to be a buffer against any subsidies? Why the increment now? As you can see we were actually paying more that what the world market dictated and there is no reason whatsoever for the increment.

I generally believe that price of fuel is still relatively cheaper in Ghana because of subsidies and we should let the market determine the true prices instead of this socialist price controls. We all complain about debt and yet clamour for more free or heavily subsidized stuff how are you going to pay for them? I dont care about NDC and NPP politics because they all lack bold and transformational leaders.

In the US of A where fuel prices reflect the true market price, plus 18% federal tax plus the various state and city taxes, all added, petrol is selling at $2.40 a gallon on the average. If you remove the taxes, the real cost is about $1.72/gallon. That is the real market price, determined by world crude oil plus refining plus transportion, plus storage plus profit margin. How can we in Ghana say that fuel selling at $3.30 a gallon is subsidized? Even if we allow for extra extra extra cost for transportation, we should not be buying fuel at more than $2.00/gallon plus any added taxes. The distance between Ghana and Saudi Arabia is not longer than between Saudi and America. It is even much shorter from Nigeria or Angola to Ghana.

What Asaga needs to know is that, Ghanaians are saying the fuel price hikes are unjustified, totally unacceptable, smacks and reeks of impunity, and demand that, those so-called fuel price hikes are dismissed from the mind and thinking of Moses Asaga and the public space pronto.

How many people can afford to buy BMW in Ghana? It is just very few businessmen and politicians who do not even pay taxes on the their incomes. Therefore using the income of the few rich people as the basis of imposing taxes on the poor majority defeats both the ability to pay and the benefits received principle of taxation.

Moses Asaga has always been a nitwit. Why is the NDC hierarchy full of such morons. Back January 2009, this guy walked into Monsoon Restaurant at Osu and demanded that a couple move from where they were sitting so that he, and MP and his companion, A visiting Senator from Liberia could have a place to sit.

He even had the audacity to called on the manager (a white man) to order the couple to move, a request the manager refused to do on two grounds. First of all the couple being asked to move were long time customers of the establishment, secondly it never done unless the table or area is reserved ahead of time and finally but not least, this was Asaga's first visit to the establishment - NDC had just been installed as government that week and he was now flashed with cash and throwing his weight around.

Asaga as an economist should know that any increase in fuel impacts the economy negatively because most good and services in Ghana are transported by road and thus the knock on effect in terms of fare and freight charge increases go way beyond BMW and private care owners.

These NDC guys are a bunch of jokers. GHANA VOTE THEM OUT IN 2016. THEY ARE TOTALLY AT SEA. THEY HAVE NO CLUE ON HOW TO FIX THE ECONOMY THEY HAVE MESSED UP.

Secondly, we are talking about Ghana and not a tribe. I do not know the basis for your childish statement and the body that did a study and come out with such findings.

Asaga displayed the highest level of ignorance and arrogance during the interview yesterday. I know Germany (Deutschland) and England very well. You cannot compare those countries to Ghana. No way. Germans have various forms of state funded assistance which help the poor. We do not have those things in Ghana. England and for that matter UK too has benefit systems for those who qualify. If you stay in those countries on students' visa, you do not see all these social interventions that the state gives to the nationals. Germans have Kindergeld - "children money". Each child in the country receives monthly "income" of 168 euros per month. Do we have such benefits in Ghana? Pls stop being petty and lets see the bigger picture than this tribal sentiments you a displaying.

For the 3 weeks I spent in Ghana last year, I spent the equivalent of my 4 months electricity billing in the UK just on Diesel for our generator so what is this ignoramus called Asaga talking about??
