Testing drugs on captive groups even in prison is a thing of the past in every civilised nation. They can only be compulsorily innoculated in case of an outbreak a disease among them. Those students can therefore not be forced or even entice to partake in the trial of a drug like that. Shld it not have been tested in the countries affected by the Ebola virus, if that's indeed not the case?

Just stop this madness! Drugs are tested on volunteers these days, often in a controlled environment. Every year I read adverts for volunteers to test drugs for the common colds. Lodging and cash compensation far, far exceeding the lousy 200 cedis and phone being promised. For testing an Ebola drug, we should be talking of 1000s of cedis! And the test should take place in a partially built secluded facility with the top range drugs for treating Ebola.

Hi CY, if you don't know what clinical trial is about, don't misinform the public. no clinical trial can take place in Ghana without approval from FDA and Ghana Health Service ethics committee. besides Prof Binka is reknown personality in clinical trial and will not force anybody to participate in any clinical trial. so check your facts well before being petty here. those students who willingly want to take part should be allowed to take part. the study is purely voluntary. this amount is for compensation I believe. this is done everywhere. in the developed countries, they pay higher compensations to get people into clinical trials.

Since when did the people of Hohoe (Gbidzigbe) become Ashanti royals? Anyway, the news said the test was intended for students in the midwifery school, not the people of Hohoe. Are all those students there from Hohoe? Certainly not! The vast majority of them shall be coming from other towns and villages in the rest of Ghana, not only the VR. It is only ethnocentric bastards that think like you and your ilk like Mark whenever the VR is mentioned. Although I understand that it will be conducted under strict scientific standards, there is the potential that it could fail in a subject and therefore cause problems for the community at large. Ghanaians should rise up against such trials in Ghana where Ebola is nonexistent.
The manufacturers of the drugs will be better served to conduct trials in affected areas or on their own people. This is the fight the celebrities should champion.

Ethical clearance must be obtained when doing Clinical trials on humans and the individuals must consent before participating, so why are the students panicking. If this is true, it will be on voluntary basis and not force.

Again,Ghana recorded one person of Ebola case,if any.I think the most effective and simple Common Sense approach,is to have the Trial in those Countries which recorded heavy outbreaks and deaths,according to available Statistics.Countries like Sierra Leone,Liberia, Mali,etc etc. Clinical Trials is normal but Why not in the know Countries which recorded the Virus in great or numerous figures and death ?.

For thousands of years Africans have been eating bush meat and nobody has ever heard about Ebola until Westerners very recently, 1976, to be exact, began to go into the bushes in the Congo (formerly Zaire) and then all of a sudden they allegedly discovered Ebola in some monkeys. The same thing was said about the AIDS/HIV virus. Yet there are those who strongly believe that these viruses are man-made, being a part of Westerners' biological weapons development programme.

Why do some of you our Ghanaian, and African journalists in general, so uncritically accept whatever Westerners tell us? Why are you such simpletons? Can’t you read and learn about the white man’s history and discover how they’ve treated and still continue to treat, black people throughout history? Haven’t you heard or read, for instance, about Tuskegee experiment, how the Americans deliberately left some syphilis infected black men untreated so that they could see the effect of a newly manufactured vaccine given to those infected with syphilis? I totally do not want this to happen because Ghana can not be a target population for a trial of a disease that did not affect us. The students participation in a research is voluntary no one can force you against your wish. I don't want my country to be in any epidemic. Cancers, diabetes, hypertension is killing us these days and are we doing trials on them? This is unnecessary.
