Power is directly related to energy. One may have energy but you need to turn it into power for it to be productive. Dr Robert Glah is right for saying the power ministry should not be scrapped. I believe he has an engineering background. These book economists and politricksians are our major problems.

It is interesting to listen to the Vice President yesterday and read him in the news papers. The Chinese government has given us state companies to help us uplift ourselves, yet Amissar Arthur wants a fair lady in the form of private sector from China. It looks like the Vice President was telling the Chinese to convert all their state companies into private entities. It looks like if our Vice President happen to be in India he will be telling the Indian Prime Minister to gave the state food distribution company to the private sector to run. The Energy Minister is yet to put up a wind turbine at the Kawukuri Junction in Accra.

I'M NOT SURPRISED THE COUNTRY IS GOING THROUGH THIS HORRIBLE CRISES CALLED DUMSOR. ALL OF US RIGHT FROM FROM OUR LEADERS TO THE LAST PERSON MUST BE BLAMED FOR THIS CRISES. HOWEVER, ALL IS STILL NOT LOST. WE CAN COME OUT FROM THIS ENERGY CRISES.
WHEN KWAME NKRUMAH BUILT THE HYDRO DAM, GHANA'S POPULATION WAS ABOUT 7 MILLION. AS THE YEARS ROLLED BY VALCO COULD USE 2/3RDS OF THE POWER PRODUCED. IN 1997, CHAIRMAN RAWLINGS REALISED THAT THE DEMAND FOR ENERGY IS BECOMING CRITICAL SO HE ADDED THE TAKORADI THERMAL PLANT. AND SINCE THEN THE DEMANG FOR ELECTRICITY SUPPLY HAS BEEN INCREASING EXPONENTIALLY.
OVER THE YEARS, THE MINISTRY OF ENERGY EXTENDED POWER TO COMMUNITIES ALL OVER GHANA. I APPLAUD THE GOVERNMENT FOR THAT. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THESE EXTENSIONS WERE DONE WITHOUT CONSIDERING THE GENERATION CAPACITIES IN THE COUNTRY.
ONE FUNNY THINGS ABOUT THIS WHOLE CRISES IS THAT, PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ENJOYING POWER FOR FREE FOR FAR TOO LONG. WHY DO I SAY THAT? ONE CAN ENJOY ELECTRICITY FREE FROM HYDRO BUT NOT WITH GAS AND CRUDE OIL. THE UNDERLYING CAUSE OF THIS DUMSOR IS THAT, OVER THE YEARS, GOVERNMENT OFFICES, INSTITUTIONS/INDUSTRIES AND INDIVIDUALS HAVE BEEN USING ELECTRICITY WITHOUT PAYING BILLS ESPECIALLY SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THERMAL POWER PLANTS. PEOPLE HAVE NOT BEEN PAYING THEIR BILLS. ECG SOME YEARS BACK DECIDED TO USE PREPAYMENT METER SYSTEM BECAUSE THEY SAW THAT THE DEBTS ARE PILING AND BECOMING BIGGER BY THE DAY.
FRIENDS WHAT DID WE SEE? UNTIL TODAY THE COMPANY HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THE PREPAYMENT METER SYSTEM EFFECTIVELY. WHY? BECAUSE GOVERNMENTS HAVE NOT ALLOWED THEM BECAUSE OF THEIR POLITICAL GAINS. IN AS MUCH AS ECG WANTS TO GO PREPAID, THE MINISTRY OF ENERGY INSTALLS THE CREDIT METERS. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE. RECENTLY GOVERNMENT PUT THE BLAME ON ECG FOR CAUSING DUMSOR. MEANWHILE THEY FORGOT THAT THEY HAVE CAUSED THIS MESS. RIGHT NOW THE COMPANY CANNOT PAY VRA BECAUSE THERE IS HUGH DEBT TO BE PAID BY CONSUMERS. IF I DON'T PAY MY BILLS AND YOU DON'T PAY YOURS, WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN TO THE ENERGY SECTOR?
WHY IS IT THAT TILL TODAY, ALL INSTITUTIONS ARE NOT ON PREPAID METERING SYSTEM.? A FRIEND OF MINE AT ECG TOLD ME THAT THEY STILL CAN'T COLLECT THE DEBTS BECAUSE OF POLITICAL INFLUENCES. OUR POLITICIANS ARE SO POWERFUL THAT, THEY CONTROL EVERYTHING. YOU TELL THE TRUTH AND YOU ARE FIRED. HOW CAN YOU USE ELECTRICITY WITHOUT PAYING IN THIS DISPENSATION ESPECIALLY WHEN GAS AND CRUDE OIL ARE USE FOR THE GENERATION?
UNTIL ALL ARE MADE TO PAY THEIR BILLS, THEY CAN BRING 20 POWER BADGES, THIS PROBLEM WILL PERSIST. AREN'T THOSE POWER BADGES GOING TO USE FUEL? IF YOU A MOSQUITO COIL AND IT RUNS OUT DON'T YOU LIGHT ANOTHER ONE?
