Chinese loans are to make way for the chinese in your economy for their benefits- to push them into your country for work. Our leaders are now millionaires but the ordinary people are suffering . The effect of high interest rates and Treasury Bills (T-Bills) yields, and lack of industrial base for exporting finished goods in Ghana.

Because the US dollar is the reserved currency and every international transaction, including the prices of cars,electric generators,computers,refrigerators,and any foreign goods, is conducted in dollars, any currency that slides against the dollar is in serious trouble.

Six months ago 3.50 Ghana Cedi = 1 US Dollar.

yesterdaay 06-01-2015:
4.09 Ghana Cedi = 1 US Dollar

today 06-02-2015:
4.09 Ghana Cedi = 1 US Dollar

Consequence:

1. high inflation

2. high unemployment

3. Social instability

Most, if not all, Ghanaians are culpable in this foolishness and here are some of the reasons why we're all part of it—except a few patriots who fought hard to make Ghana a real country.

1) Demand & Supply of the dollar: If hotels and other businesses in Ghana are quoting and demanding payments in dollars instead of the local and national currency—the Cedi—then the high demand of the dollar would certainly knock out the Cedi to the floor. I've stayed and paid dollars in some Accra hotels on my bi-annual visits to Ghana, but that's wrong and although I visit with dollars, as other visitors do, what about the ordinary Ghanaian living in the country—to buy dollars and pay the hotels or what?

2) LAZY THINKERS, indeed, Mr. Koomson: Why wouldn't our intellectuals and politicians be lazy thinkers, since they're damn busy thinking about their many wives, many girlfriends, many children, (settling disputes among these groups), or thinking on how to steal from the government, etc., etc., thus leaving them no time to think about solving the problems of the country. Although they think, they think about the WRONG THINGS!!

3) Preference of foreign goods: Why sit in Ghana and prefer to eat RICE imported from America, Asia or somewhere else? Why import turkey tails and tooth picks? Then comes vehicles, electronic equipment, clothes, even drinks, etc., imported with foreign currencies, which impact on the demand and supply of the country's foreign reserves. Parliament importing furniture from Italy & China was very BAD example!!

4) Lastly, I will suggest to Mr. Budu Koomson that Ghanaians, and most African countries, are damn IMPOTENT, technologically. If we could manufacture a whole array of products such as; vehicles, TVs, computers, cell phones, generators, medicines, cameras and most electronic equipment, etc., their prices would go down, the products would be abundant or available to the people—as in the western world with certain products—and that would also help to cut down corruption, envy, jealousy and senseless robberies.

$$ So, indeed, we’re LAZY thinkers, technologically IMPOTENT and have screwed up priorities—emotional needs over logical/critical things $$!!

Just imagine after years of toil outside country one decide to establish a small scale business from a trade she has acquired in her village that could employ about 20 to 25 youths from her village. However, her plan was short-lived when her equipment and vehicles for the plan business were confiscated at the port because she could afford the high Tariffs. Tax almost equals to the cost and cost of shipment of these items.
The funny part of the story is, these items including all the vehicles were later sold to a Government official at a price far lower than the tariff they were demanding at the port. Therefore, to say we are lazy is farfetched statement. The problem is with our corrupt leaders who lack ability to initiates and implement good policies that will benefit the citizenry.

It is all about leadership. I saw Ghana under Nkrumah, He was a man on a mission. He set goals {the 7-year development plan} and worked hard to achieve them. He had charisma and was able to motivate people to work hard. Ghana became the leading producer of cocoa beans and the richest on the continent through hard work. Everybody in the country was contributing in one way or the other. We were all very happy and no one complained. Even back then, people were not tribalistic at all. The government of today is "incompetent" so we need a change. Put tribal and party sentiments aside, we really need a change of leadership. DON'T WE HAVE YOUNG POLITICIANS IN THE COUNTRY? Why can't any one step to the plate and take charge of their own destiny like Nkrumah did when he was a young politician. We need young people with "education" to take charge and lead us out of this mess. The old corrupt politicians must give way to young men and women with "education" to pull us out of this miserable situation. Young men and women with education would have confidence in themselves, they would work hard like bulls, stealing would be beneath them. THE OLD ORDER HAS TO CHANGE AND GIVE PLACE TO NEW. some Yong men and women must come together and form a new party to contest the coming elections and I can tell you if you do your home work well, you can sweep away the old corrupt leaders that are destroying our country. Are you not following America politics? Look at what Obama has done. he has turned things around for the Americans. If for 7 or more years the NDC led government can't turn things around, then it is time for them to go.

Ooooh!!! What is wrong with the chemical constituents that form the brain of these Dankwa/ Busia’s? Is there no elderly among them? None have morals .They behave like ostriches pretending all is fine when it is in their favour but cannot stand their opponents when the ball changes hand. How on earth can they end up in a hair dressing salon for a loan? They are so lazy, dull witted and incompetent, majority of them finished school with no certificates and cannot even remember which school they attended. INCREDIBLE!!!

Everything they know about economics is buying and selling. Creativity has eluded them; they only result to insult when they are at their wits end. “PATAPAA” is a common characteristic of them to cover their shameful silly behaviour. Their silly self-esteemed and endemic mental slavery, which was handed down to them by their forefathers, is what is still holding this country aback. Is every Ghanaian a policy-maker?

If you want to make valid criticisms of a society, then you must hit the correct targets.

Ghanaian cocoa farmers are not lazy, but their income is seized by a predatory Central Government, through the Cocobod, that misuses the money to finance NDC foot-soldiers through GYEEDA, SADA, Zoomlion and other political businesses. When this money is used for conspicuous consumption by the fools who do not work but have money to spend, it creates a demand for foreign exchange and the currency weakens.

That is the basic weakness that is killing the currency and creating inflation. Meanwhile, dumsor and fuel price hikes prevent the local industries to produce enough goods to enable imports to be cut down. Once again, that weakens the currency.

Finally, Government recurrent and capital expenditure constantly exceeds government revenue, hence signalling financial instability to the business community (such as it is) and creating capital flight, which, again, weakens the currency.

Borrowing; high interest charges on government/parastatal borrowing can also be brouight into the equation/

Thee are the factors which must be analysed through both the micro and macro lenses, instead of just saying Ghanaians are lazy blah blah blah.

It baffles me how strong and energetic men in most of our villages in Ghana don't have the common sense to use the abundant raw materials in the villages to build strong structures for their children attend schools in. It baffles me when you go to our villages and all you see are kitchens that are ready to collapse on the women that cook under them yet in the same household, there are strong energetic and able men whom these women cook for under those traps of a kitchen. Common sense would have informed these men to go to the bush, cut some trees and put those kitchens in order so that their women will feel safe cooking under them. But because they have been eluded by common sense and lacks the ability to think, They will wait until the entire kitchen collapes on somebody before they will even think about putting it in order. Ghanaians are so quick to blame their woes on the government but they fail to realize that they are part of the government.

Most progressive countries don't make other people's currency such an issue in their economy like we do.

WHY DID THE KUFOUR ADMINISTRATION TRY TO ENABLE A CEDI/DOLLAR PARITY?
IT WAS NOT FOR THE BENEFIT OF GHANAIANS AS A WHOLE.The importers of foreign goods and those that had Billions of cedis that needed to be converted into hard currency were the only beneficiaries.

EVERY GOVERNMENT WE HAVE HAD SINCE INDEPENDENCE HAS HAD THIS FALL IN VALUE OF THE CEDI AGAINST THE DOLLAR.

Parity with the dollar is unsustainable in Ghana. NOT NOW AND NOT IN THE FOR SEEABLE FUTURE.

We seem to think it is a government fault. The problem is external to Ghana and we have no control on how the cedi is perceived externally.

Let us get serious and question ourselves why our cedi continually depreciates against the dollar.

Our President is not called Commander-in-Chief for nothing. He's commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces which represents ALL Ghanaians and also Inspirer-in-Chief of every living Ghanaian so together we can fight and win decisive battles like inflation , corruption, laziness, tribalism, discrimination, nepotism, cronyism, etc,. No one expects President John Mahama to do everything all by himself to transform Ghana but what's expected of him is to provide the leadership that unites, motivates and inspires everyone to positive action. Right now there's more talking than action from the president and the president's men and all the talk is not about fostering unity but setting Ghanaians against one another. A divided nation cannot stand and that's why we're stumbling and fumbling in the midst of plenty.

Now, we don't even have lands to farm. Rather, the "Neo-colonialists" Chinese are either digging for gold or farming and taking the rice to China, as local Chiefs give away our land for token money. It is funny to blame current government for "dumso" and refuse to acknowledge that Kufuor bought small generators that were for the same purpose.
