Although simple Snafus of this sort can easily happen in many human organizations and programs, the foreign minister's "snobby behavior" in front of many Ghanaian and foreign dignitaries was damn appalling and still tells me that our leaders and officials CAN'T EVEN AGREE ON SIMPLE THINGS. So, how do you govern or rule a nation successfully in the ocean of petty squabbles??

Mrs. Tetteh doesn't seem to be a "team player" otherwise; she wouldn't have shown that stinking attitude for being asked to give way to the VP. Our leaders should STOP these carnival operations; double-check themselves and their egos and work together to help develop the country.

And as much as I disagree with former President Rawlings, I agree with him on this: He first checked with the president and later with the Accra mayor on the proper Protocol—since the position of a VP comes before that of a cabinet minister—so this was just a matter of messed up communication amongst them and all what the “fat ass Lady Tetteh” should have done was to nicely welcome the VP and say to him "I was tapped to give the President's opening remarks, but since you're now here, go ahead and do it" and everybody would have been happy and went home to eat big balls of kenkey, fried fish, shito and fufu and there wouldn’t be any gossips or Monday quarterbacks.

**The nation needs serious attention of our leaders and this silly power struggle and uncontrolled village egos (the kookoo ase variety—that’s big one) must be cut to size and only the president can do that for his own sanity, his effectiveness and eventual success & legacy.**

What the lady did was out of protocol, and for that matter needs to be reprimanded. With their ministerial appointments bestowed upon them by the president of the nation most of our Cabinet Ministers
have forgotten to humble themselves

If you don't know Rawlings is a former president who has been the only Ghanaian president to have addressed the powerful mayors' conference in the US and know what he was talking about.

Hannah Tetteh disrespected everyone including the president,there was no need to leave that conference before the vice president spoke,even her so called aide just called the former president's name as if he was his classmate,even if he was his classmate as a former president he can't just address him the way he did in the statement,it shows the type of people they are.

Are you really comfortable with this your argument? Where in this world would a former president instruct a sitting president on state protocol? What exactly is Rawlings' position in Ghana today? Party founder and what? Someone who used the gun to rob the people of Ghana blind? Someone who collapsed other people's businesses and used state money to buy state businesses for his wife and family?

If he had any sense or personal dignity, he wouldn't even speak in public about anything, but obviously that is not his culture. That is not his upbringing.

This case actually shows a weak president, a kind of yo-yo that is blown by the wind everywhere. it shows how the president and his government are never really prepared for anything.

The only person who comes out with some dignity is Hannah Tetteh. The rest of them do not know what they are doing!

My first interaction with her was during the NDC Congress in Tamale in 2010, the second was at Marriott Hotel in New York City, and the third was at the residence of Ghana Ambassador in Washington DC. Her answers were very condescending and arrogant.

Since then, I vowed to myself never to talk to her again. Attitude is a priceless quality in life, and it begins at home - people's upbringing at early childhood is very important!

From the story, John Mahama threw all protocol caution to the wind, damned the circumstances and delegated the responsibility of reading his speech to Hanna Tetteh flouting all protocol procedures and Rawlings condemnation to the effect that, he John Mahama could not do that, belies a certain disrespect for the Vice-President by John Mahama and the excuse proffered by Rawlings shows how shocked he was, at the situation because it just baffled him that, John Mahama could be that incompetent not to be keenly aware of proper protocol or he could be that disrespectful to the Vice-President.
In trying to make sense of Hanna Tetteh's narrative, she said she decided to sit and wait to see....if the VP would come...because her understanding was that she was to stand in and give the President's speech.
The question is has there ever been a situation where the VP had been asked to stand in for John Mahama and he hadn't obliged for which reason, she Hanna Tetteh decided to once again, on the presumption that this has happened before and therefore, she was going to sit and wait to see if the VP would come, after the Mayor had made it very obvious to Hanna Tetteh that, the VP was on his way to the conference to deliver the speech of the President, with Hanna Tetteh still, insisting she had been vested with the mandate and the responsibility to read John Mahama's speech?
It was just gross disrespect shown the VP, Rawlings, the Mayor, all the other mayors from all those countries from the duo; John Mahama and Hanna Tetteh and there can be no excuse no matter the level of animosity between John Mahama, Hanna Tetteh and the VP. The rebuke from Rawlings though has put Hanna Tetteh in a very tight spot, where resignation is the only avenue left to her to save face and any integrity she might have.
It was an embarrassment and an altogether outrageous fiasco which effects on hindsight have all contributed to Ghana's present predicament which is an abysmal state of retrogression and stagnation. The center has never held and coupled with the incompetence, plain thievery and cluelessness, Ghana is a goner.
A gov't that cannot follow simple protocol and has very serious problems with speech management would not be able to exhibit leadership and the ability to govern on any level and need to be massively fired at the ballot box in 2016

If the Vice President was in the country at the time of the conference then of course protocol demands that he should represent the President in such an important international event. Time factor does not matter. This shows how the ruling of rookies are destroying the country. The Presidency is packed up with people of with little experience and do not know what to do in time of such nature. The know-nothing President knew there was cabinet meeting on that very day but mistakenly asked Ms.Hanna Tetteh to deliver his open message so if it did not come on as planned she should have stayed on till the end of the conference. But by leaving through the back door without informing Capo Rawlings of her attending the cabinet meeting shows gross disrespect.

But I also think J. J. shouldn't have said his observation in Public or sold it to the Media. He could have called her in private to educate her of such protocol. This is the kind of Public reprimand that often leads to permanent souring of relations that potentially create factions in Political Parties.

I hope the Foreign Minister would humbly apologize and not simply justify the error with the reasons she had to leave in that way. No one knew what was going through her mind or what was drawing her away. However urgent the reason that took her away from the scene, she should have followed the protocol. It might have been a genuine error whose discussion should not be dragged on, or into a field of wild speculation that she might bear the VP a grudge.

The most important things J. J. ought to be talking to the President and his Cabinet about include prioritizing fixing the Dumsor and Wastewater and Drainage problems in Accra and other Cities, as part of the general effort to resuscitate our Economy.

I most regret the lost of lives in the Flood currently submerging the City but I am tempted to think Providence made it coincide with the Meeting of these World Mayors to put right before their eyes evidence of the incompetence of our own leaders in managing our Countries.

There seems to be a poetic irony in the purported behavior of the Foreign Minister's that the Article reported. And that is the fact that our Officials, especially, the Cabinet members, don't seem to coordinate their duties with one another's to help the Government Agencies achieve their expected goals.

The attitudinal error or breach of protocol shown by the Foreign Minister serves to testify to a long held notion of disjointed Agency mutual support in Ghana, especially in this Administration that causes many projects to stagnate or be poorly executed.

The problem of Flooding in Accra has existed for a long time. But it does not seem the Government is getting the proper feedback and impetus from among its Cabinet to correct the problem. Many of us might choose to call the Flood a natural event, an Act-of-God, that people have no control over. However, intelligent and efficient Officials would have to always remember that such Acts-of-God could be mitigated by proper planning and implementation of good policies and certain projects.

While the Mayor of Accra may be the first in line to take the brunt of this mess afflicting his City, the problem impacts businesses and the Economy of all in Ghana. It touches on Public Safety, Health, Tourism, Education, Transportation, Power and Routine Businesses. So, one would expect the Cabinet to brainstorm for the best solution to suggest for their Colleagues in the Interior Ministry, Works and Housing Ministry and Local Government to work on. All these must be on their toes to find a lasting effective solution in the quickest time possible. This is just the tip of the ice-berg. The heavier rains are on the way.

If it would be impossible to promptly replace all the Drainage Network with a most modern and effective one, at least, some work could be done to keep all the existing drains free of garbage that people often foolishly dump into them, and move any obstacles in the natural paths of runoffs. That might include often unauthorized wrongly cited Buildings. The efforts by the Government to clear such structures should not be confrontational but persuasive with concomitant compensation in cash or kind. People moved could be paid cash to rebuild elsewhere more appropriate, or the Government could build for them.

We should send folks to the Netherlands, Canada, and similar places where systems have been built to effectively ward off floods, learn from them, and come back to lead in building what would best suit our unique environment. In fact, I know of a few excellent Ghanaian Professionals in diaspora who are helping to run systems in various Cities abroad. We should encourage them to return home to help. And Officials back home ought to shed their needless contentious rivalry or sheer resistance to returning diasporans that they have to work with.

That would be a perfect role to play by any Government, and I hope ours undertakes policies of that kind to help save lives and Property and make our Cities, especially, Accra pleasant to live in or visit.
