Well, our leaders now have some king size problem on their hands to work with. How many times (isn't it annual) that the summer rainstorms have hit Accra and government after government nothing serious has been done to figure out exactly where the problem lies? Either flooding result from the clogged and unattended drainage systems or the unplanned and carelessly erected structures and houses, which are poorly situated or a combination of all is still yet to be found out— but why so LONG, Negro??
Unfortunately, I would say, that not until the floods badly hit and damage Parliament House, Flag Staff House, The Castle, the Supreme Court and several bungalows occupied by the do-nothing politicians & officials, nothing serious would be done about it and that would be very unfortunate. Right now we’re getting truckloads of sympathies/condolences, 3 days of national mourning and empty political ranting and careless rhetoric to console people and a week later—they will go back to business as usual. The people want ACTION NOW!!

Before we make it all about buildings permits and construction on waterways, we need to be bold and ask the very difficult questions. First and foremost, does Accra and most of the expanding urban centers have a drainage system which exists, is effective and meets the rapid urbanization of the major cities in the country?
A loan amount of close to a staggering $1billion dollars approved by Parliament and contracted from the Exim Bank would answer the question of the drainage system in Accra. We then need to ask, where is that loan amount? What happened to that loan? Has it been used for the drainage system in Accra for which it was contracted?
And since we want to make it about buildings constructed on waterways, what is the contributory factor to the flooding situation as compared to the unavailability of the drainage system?
Let's not make this about building permits and buildings on waterways. The fact of the matter is Accra has no effective drainage system and what exists is remnants from the 60's which has not kept pace with the rapid urbanization of Accra and the loan which was contracted for just that, has been squandered. It has been looted. It has suffered the classic e dey bee k3k3 policy of thievery.
Again is it proper planning in this 21st century to build before looking at ways to incorporate a drainage system in the built environment?
A typical case in point is the flyover being constructed at Circle. One would have though knowing the flooding situation at Circle, the drainage system would have been looked at first to provide a means of getting water away from within that environment. It us non existent.
The Mahama-led NDC govt has failed and needs to and must go.

We all know throwing rubbish into gutters will block the water way when it rains yet we do it. Expecting JM to perform miracles. It doesn't happen that way.

(a shelter is non of our vocabulary).
So,(3).What is the Planning in place to house those involved,since Ghana do not have Council Flats/Buildings.
(4).Is the gov't prepared to pay Commpensation to over 100(statistics
my)houses which may be affected,and give them a new site to build ? etc etc
Therefore,I think (1).Well Surveyed -Planned Drainage System(which may affect very few houses)should be employed. (2).Strict Litter Containers/ Boxes Culture,(3).A general Shift from pre- independence 240 years old small Gutter Designed along our City/Town/ Village Streets to Standard Drainage Underneath.(4).Strict Enforcement of Buildings Codes (5).
