It is not his personal and private business to decide whether this trial should take place or not. He can misconduct himself in this vulgar and coarse manner with his wife at home but when it comes to national issues he should know his limits. If he persists we shall show him his limits in an appropriate manner.

If for whatever right or wrong reason - including the dismal failure of those suspicious faceless characters who sneakily went ahead and approved this critical trial with foreigners without the tacit knowledge of the state, and Ghanaians are wary of and traumatized by possible negative consequences which do happen and have happened in the past in other countries, why is he so upset? He himself is behaving quite suspiciously about this whole thing. We will not allow him to place his mere academic prestige and possible financial and material gains ahead of the sovereign interest of the state of Ghana and the concerns of the people of Ghana. Too many of these brigands and mercenaries have taken this country for a ride

With all their highfalutin and pompous qualifications as well as big posts in various international bodies, which at the end of the day amount to naught, they cant even do anything about common cholera and malaria in Ghana and Africa yet they think it is alright for us to lend ourselves to Ebola experiments by the same foreigners who are alleged to have used vulnerable people across the world in their nefarious scientific experiments - some of which are not necessarily aimed towards the health benefits of mankind.

Somebody should tell that Dodou guy that for whatever reason that we may choose to advance, we have the right not to participate in this experiment. Human beings, in spite of any adducible arguments, have rights to even refuse mainstream medical treatment - as the Jehovah Witnesses and some other religious and traditional groups do. The level of Dodous arrogance in this matter, can only stem from either bad education or personal interest

His insulting outburst that "Ghanaians were begging for vaccines to cure H1N1 virus after its outbreak", is just simply nonsense. The guys thinking pattern is that of a subjective illiterate. We buy these drugs from these cut-throat western pharmaceutical firms at great cost. It is not as if they are charitable organizations who come to our aid in such times of distress after they have discreetly used us as guinea pigs to try the efficacy of their products. We dont owe them any obligations or niceties and we are not obliged to carry them on palanquins, run around at their every beck and call and lie down prostrate for them to walk over us. This kind of racial submissiveness should have stopped on the 6th March 1957 but we must also admit that it will take a while to sanitize and cleanse ourselves and our psyche from over 500 years of colonial tyranny. There are many stragglers who cant keep pace with the new African revival and this Dodou guy is one.

These same western pharmaceutical firms who have become globally notorious for their pervasive immoral and unethical practices and as a result, have earned the ignoble notoriety and offensive nickname 'Big Pharma', have no limits to their insidious and greedy quest for profit. Of course as a simpleton and a typically naive academic, Dodou does not seem to know what time of the day it is in the world. Big Pharma, the multilateral financial institutions and the western military industrial complex do not play by the rules nor by any standard of ethical or moral compunction. For them, profit matters more than human beings and this is the monster that we are up against.

I can understand why the MPs and the Minister of Health are scared about the Ebola test on humans, who have not yet developed or have been affected with the Ebola virus. The fear is well founded if, infact, the VACCINE was nor originally developed in Ghana and by Ghanaian doctors.

Remember the Tuskegee Experiment on Black Americans in the 20th century in the USA? That's one source of the fear—once bitten, twice shy—for those who’re aware of that. Many times, the White man develops some cucumania vaccine, purposefully to KILL people, and they test it on Africans first before Whites.

Intellectually, I WANT OUR DOCTORS TO USE MOST OF THE Trees, Leaves, Seeds, Weed, etc., etc., to develop vaccines for our types (tropical) of diseases and not always rely on the Whiteman. And so should our Engineers, Mathematicians and Scientists to come up with technological breakthroughs for our own development, instead of waiting for and buying from the Whiteman.

Suggested Solution: Go get some damn monkeys, apes, rats, mice, pigs, horses or cows and intentionally get them infested with the Ebola virus, try to cure them with the vaccine, read the results and if successful, then try the vaccine on humans—in clinical tests. So, don’t move too fast

By the way: Where was the vaccine developed? In Ghana, in other African countries or in the imperialist west? And, lastly, what potent (good) vaccine has been developed in Ghana and by Ghanaian doctors?

However, the vaccine is partly developed by some student of the University of Allied and Health Sciences, so it's not trustworthy a product for Ghanaian souls. Yet, they are ever ready to swig fake medicines happily from China every now and then with little or no bother whatsoever. How sad!

From my recollection, the Ebola vaccine did not work for some of the people that received it, and those people died in the end. You have to look at it from the "what if" stand point, and then think through before subjecting your fellow Ghanaians for a clinical tries. Why didn't they try to start it in Accra or some metropolitan area but rather decided to do it in a rural area? They knew what the reactions will be. Why bribing the people with cell phones, and money? It is only poor people and non-intellects that can do that with.

As a clinical pharmacologist, don't you know that trial patients have to first be given a strain of the virus for the trial to be successful? It is the same as taking a flu vaccine which is nothing more than the flu virus being injected into the body for the human anti-bodies to fight the virus. Some even die every year from the flu vaccine, and that is why a lot of people in the US opt out of taking the vaccine every year during flu seasons. The government should investigate this guy and find out what research was done in the first place before selecting Ghana as a testing ground for the ebola vaccine. Why don't they test this vaccine in the country where it is being manufactured? He is talking as if the vaccine is going to be manufactured in Ghana. Shame on you!

From a statistical point of view, the fact that, no case of Ebola was recorded in Ghana, does not prevent experiment on Ebola in Ghana. Often, experiments aim at comparing two sub-populations and determining if there's a (significant) difference between them. In this case, infected and uninfected population For example, we may compare the frequency occurrence of lung cancer of smokers compared to non-smokers.

Having read a bit about what the Prof. is talking about in terms of vaccines and it's development, under normal circumstances it shouldn't have been a problem if there was a lot more sensitization, education and transparency about the vaccine development process, and why it needed to be done, and the benefits to society and to the pharmaceutical industry in terms of capacity to arrest the epidemic and contain it, and the economic impact of being able to lead in the development and production and storage of these vaccines safely for such public health pandemics as was observed with the Ebola outbreak.
It is quite technical but it can be elaborated upon in simple terms for the average Joe to understand and appreciate what is going on here. It may look like the opportunity has been missed with the level of frustration being exhibited, but it was to be expected judging from the secrecy surrounding the process.
My concern though is why is it being tested in Ghana because there are active cases of the Ebola outbreak in the sub-region. Some have survived the viral infection and have built immunity to the infection. So is the trial vaccine an isolated attenuated virus or antibodies from these individuals who survived the outbreak? Why not test it in those regions where there is activity and if those regions don't have the capacity pharmaceutically to develop this Ebola vaccine and Ghana does, we then take up that aspect of the development process drawing lessons from the case of the Doctor from the US who contracted the disease in Liberia and his antibodies were then injected into other patients who contracted the virus?
In my opinion it should be tested in regions with active outbreak of the infection.

We probably did not invent this vaccine, but we are the ones most likely to benefit from it. Yet we insult those who put up the money and intellect to develop it because they want to test it here. If not on Africans who will be the most likely beneficiaries, then where? These tests are not done without serious scientific thought and constant monitoring of the participants. Do we want to wait till Ebola strikes in Ghana before we agree to the test? By then it will be too late. We were just lucky this time around. I shake my head in disbelief.

So the processes have duly been followed up till now. After the clinical trials in Hohoe, it will then cover the whole region b4 it is finally recommended for mass use.
