We saw the situation after Nkrumah(whose overthrow was a blessing in disguise), Acheampong, Akuffo and Jerry's regimes were all corrupt. Old man, if the populace are AFRAID of the police and military, it means COMMUNISM. The police are to be respected and not feared. Nunoo needs to talk like a matured person. Anyway, when is he going to retire from politics? If Nkrumah was alive, he would have been at Nsawam under the PDA.

You seem to be repeating what Rawlings and his misguided, inexperienced "let the blood flow" chanting youth said years ago. They claimed our older leaders had failed and they violently took over the country in the 80s and mismanaged it for 20years. The result was a Cuban-style communist dictatorship, economic mismanagement, Rawlings' chain" and abject poverty.
The so-called revolutionaries, who were wearing car tyre sandals and condemned market women to death for petty profiteering, are now billionaires and cut-throat capitalists enjoying money and power fraudulently. Throughout the period when Ghana was appropriately nicknamed "ojah krom", they perpetuated their rule through the gun, fear and electoral malpractices. Unfortunately, they are the same group overseeing the sinking of this country today, they and will do everything to rig the elections as usual to continue their mediocre rule, despite the fact that Ghanaians want them out.

It's very frightening to think that sometime ago such a person was in a position of authority. WHAT DO SOLDIERS DO THAT MAKE PEOPLE FEAR THEM, THE LAWLESS BEATING OF PEOPLE? Is Nunoo-Mensah interested in seeing soldiers acting as the law or wants our laws enforced the proper way; with the courts deciding what punishment one gets? So far as politicians in power are way above the law, lawlessness will abound. THINK ABOUT IT THAT WAY, NUNOO-MENSAH. FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS ARE NOT WISE SUGGESTIONS. We don't want any lawlessness from soldiers.

Nonsense talk,Ghana Army is more undiscipline than the Ghana Police.
If Ghanaians don`t fear the Police is ,because we all know the Ghanaian Police men and women will rather take a one Cedi bribe than take action, when somebody breaks the law. They even ask, whether one prefers to go to court and pay a huge fine or pay a spot bribe of one Cedi to aqvoid prosecution.
So if anything at all, this man should direct his anger on the Law enforcement agencies in the Country and the citizen.
Because our leaders are corrupt, from the President`t office to the Prison Officer, they can`t enforce laws in the Country least it may catch up with them.

Please you ought to accept that we are in a different era and not PNDC or AFRC era and behave accordingly. If you think the Police have lost the respect they need to get, why dont you find out what is the cause of that. Instead you are encouraging soldiers to come out of barracks and come to misbehave or do exactly what to instill fear in Ghanaians? You really must be getting out of policy making! Your goofs and some actions over the past few years are nothing but serious disrespect and abuse of the foundamental human rights of Ghanaians. You have outlived your usefulness in the Jungle days of Ghana.

Has Prez. John Dramani Mahama heard Nunoo Mensah indirectly calling for his overthrow?
Now, that is symptomatic of his failed leadership and failed governance because if the society is rotten, it starts at the very top.
Clearly, John Mahama's own NDC party and gov't has rejected him and this suggestion from Nunoo Mensah shows the NDC gov't and John Dramani Mahama has failed, and since there is no way Ghanaians would allow any new roles for any military in a constitutional democracy, as being advocated by Nunoo Mensah in this country called Ghana and on this planet called Earth, President John Dramani Mahama would do well to save his skin from his failed leadership and failed governance by resigning as being suggested indirectly by Brig. Gen(Rtd) Joseph Nunoo Mensah in lieu of an indirect call for insurrection by the military from Nunoo Mensah.
The failed leadership of President John Dramani Mahama's NDC gov't must go in 2016.

Where has this man been all these years since Atta Mills death. He has suddenly emerged again with another misguided salvo, this time on his favorite subject, the discipline of the military. I beg to defer Sir. There is no such thing as fear for police as a desireable characteristic for Ghanaians to cherish. Instead, it is respect. Respect and Fear are poles apart. The police lost their respect because of interference by civilian politicians and military politicians like you and your former boss JJ Rawlings. Both groups used the police to do their dirty jobs, remember Jack Bebli and his Gang, who later turned into armed robbers and committed the most outrageous robbery of a gold bullion in broad day light. Who formed them? JJ Rawlings. As for discipline in the Army, don't go there. Just check the news of 2015 and do a comparative analysis and see of police and Military which group have been jailed the most for robberies. Give us a break old Soldier.

Maybe he needs to do some peacekeeping duties in DR Congo to see where the type of system he favours has landed that country. Respect and not fear. Who says there are no wars to fight? What about the war against Boko Harem in Nigeria? Chad, Cameroon and Niger have contributed troops to help a sister country. Ghana is supposed to be Nigeria's closest ally in Africa, why can't we send some soldiers there to help against the terrorists? In fact this man Mr. Nunoo-Mensah should be told straight in the face that the time he used force to rule society is gone. Now my question is, “What are the results of his 19 years rule of force?” Citizens should not fear nor be frighten of the police presence. What the citizens need to do is to respect the police as law enforcement agency.
The public need to be educated through a national wide campaign about their right so they would not pay bribes because sometime the bribes are even higher the penalties that would be issued.
Please remember the 1974 Ghana Goes Right campaign before you tell me it will not work. I mean we have successful done it before.
Now about the police corruption, let Mr Menash be aware that people will pay their way out, if it becomes difficult to get justices when bullied by law enforcement agencies. So even if the military replaces the police in law enforcement, it is just a matter of time that they would also end up being corrupt.
We can never change a society by use of force since we will eventually create a violent society.
Now back to our honourable Mr. Mensah, Your method of taming the society with forceful applications will never work in this century. So if this is your only way of instilling discipline then please back off. I will use the social media to organise the whole world to fight Ghana, if they should allow the military to interfere in the current democracy in the country. Ghana is not a property of the military; rather the military is an institution put in place to project the citizens of Ghana against enemy aggression. PERIOD!!! They have no business in the day to day management of the country. If anyone of them wants to engage in politics, let the person resign and joy the political elites. That backward AFRC & PNDC era will never be entertain. We will never accept any copy right of 'ANIMAL FARM' story.
Next time you make any suggestion, please come out with something that suits this century way of governing a nation and we will do everything to support you.
WE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO THROW SAND IN OUR EYES THIS TIME BECAUSE A NEW GENERATION IS TAKING OVER THE POLITICS OF THIS GREAT NATION. FORWARD EVER BACKWARD NEVER!!!

We do not need soldiers in our faces. We have seen their actions before. They are just as corrupt as the police. The police are corrupt. The soldiers are corrupt. The politicians are corrupt. Ghana has a systematic problem . CORRUPTION is an infectious disease. Nunoo Mensah is part of the cancer. He has been working with very corrupt people all these years and enjoyed every bit of it at the expense of the nation. If Ghana was private business, every worker would have been fired because it is a bankrupt company. Share holders get nothing back. Management is only there to enrich themselves. This is what our kids are looking at and that is what they are growing up to be. Police on the street is corrupt because management in the office is corrupt. We definitely don't need an equally corrupt soldiers with guns in our faces. We need to change the way we think of service to the nation. It should be seen as working for a company. Production and results oriented. Always reminding ourselves, it is service to nation not a fortune 500 company. We need real change.

This lunatic baboon face looking man together with Rawlings violently took Ghana and Ghanaians hostage for almost 30 years by the gun, stripped women naked before their children and husbands in public places, took away our self dignity, hugely violated our freedoms and killed a lot without any justification. It's looks he's hitting the road.
Ghanaians have to sacrifice their lives to have this democratic freedom and he is here talking nonsense as if he's lost his head.
BNI have national duty to hold him responsible for his unguided statement otherwise his family have to help him with a psychiatrist as he thinks we live in the past.
he is probably right to redefine the role of the army but certainly not a role in civil live. The army should be made to work on our lands for agro reforms and constructions nothing more nothing less.

general nunoo mensah, i hope you will read this my comments. police all over the world are supposed to work in close collaboration with members of the public. the united nations has made it a policy that when international police men and are in any country as a result of civil war or any kind of instability such police officers are encouraged to stay in the mist of the public whereas international soldiers are kept in barracks. police officers and men are trained and mentored in close contact with members of the community. brigadier has surprised me by saying that Ghanaians dont fear the police and that the soldiers should be allowed to be on the streets with other agencies. as a former chief of staff i dont think it was good for him to say that. there are laws in the country and such laws dont respect any person including a police man; police officers who offend the laws are not spared. in the era of democracy police men are supposed to be friendly and closer to members of the community. we are not in a revolutionary era where soldiers will use the gun to terrorize civilians. the world is moving forward dont let us bring back the bugabuga days, please.

This man is speaking like an illiterate. He does not have the slightest knowlege of what policing in a civilized world should be like. To him Police should be brutal n fearful to the very people they swear oath to protect. Come to think about this piece of shit from him, lets put aside the number of soldiers being convicted of robbery day by day......he has lost sight of the verythings that led to june 4th uprising, he was in support of ......the massive corruption by Millitary on both soldiers n the civil society. And has equally lost memory of the speach/message delivered by his boss Rawlings on the occassion of 4/6....the condemnation to hell of such millitary officers.....Millitary is incorruptible....aputoooo...tweeee....he doesnt belong to n has no place in the future of modern GH. Corruption is like common blood flowing in the veins of every Ghanaian. In schools we charge more fees than is lawful, in hospitals, in taxation, its not different, there's corruption everywhere in GH, even in the house of God. If he thinks that redundancy syndrome is on the GH Armed Forces, he should leave the plat form for the intelligent ones in Burma Camp n elsewhere to stage sensible arguements. Im close to the millitary HQ....n i tell u GH is one of few countries in Africa blessed very powerful resource persons when it comes to the JOB.....Nunoo Mensah is absolutely not one of such.
