NDC will definitely loose the 2016 elections because of the massive corruption, over spending, reckless borrowing and overall economic mismanagement that have characterized the regime and brought untold hardship on Ghanaians. Moreover, NDC cannot frivolously spend $5bn of public money outside the budget to buy the conscience of gullible voters as they did in 2012, and expect everything to be normal in the subsequent years without any difficulties in the economy.

Yes it is painful and sad for the loss due to the demolition exercise. Perhaps there should be some compensatory package for the affected families but this bold exercise must continue and not be stopped by dirty polities. The problem of flooding in the country's capital must be solved now. Years of indiscipline and dirty polities resulted in such a shameful disaster in the motherland. Go ahead and do what needed to be done mayor Vanderpuije to solve the problem and avoid another unnecessary future calamity. God help our country.

Do the illegal structures stop at 100 meters. Do you think that after this exercise is over that 100 m gap will not become 0 m again. If the whole area is illegal then Clear the whole place. Enough of these power hungry politicians who just keep playing to the gallery instead of doing what is necessary and right for Accra. Accra cannot be held to ransom by the actions of these illegal squatters. If these politicians are so caring let them house these squatters and allow their behaviour in their homes. Let us see if they tolerate their drains being blocked and their houses being flooded.

Officials who allowed the structures to be put up in the first place, must be found and penalised (punished,reprimanded, retrained). Above all, city and town planning, environmental management and obeying of building regulations need to be given the importance they deserve. If Ghanaians fail to do these, future disaster will made the Circle Flood/fire look like a Day Nursery Ananse story. FIX THE MESS OF A COUNTRY AND FIX IT NOW.

People of Accra have been abused for far too long by squatters with a domineering character. Accra needs to be modernised with clean waterways and beautiful super structures and not what we see today. This is not a case of NDC or NPP but nation building into the next century.Nobody should be allowed a shabby structure near the lagoons or they would turn into squattering ground with filth in no time . Instead the area could have hiring boats to ply the lagoon for tourist and this would give employment to those not employed. Travel outside Ghana our next door neighbour in Ivory Coast and see how the Lagoon in Abidjan has been transformed to sail without any smell.Those areas of Accra cannot remain in the way they are now. In the first place which Accra Chief authorised them to lodge there. Those structures have no permits and as such must be demolished. We should learn to live at peace with each other but not in this way. Most Accra lands have Northeners as chiefs who even sell the land they have occupied with impunity. Go into history from the archives and its there in black and white. The government must support the Mayor in the laid up plan for those areas especially and it would benefit the Nation in tourism and employment in the future. There is wealth all over the land so you do not have to come to Accra to be rich. Where ever these people are relocated they must be thought to till the land in order to feed themselves. A peanut farmer could become the President of America so they can rise in their own traditional area. Make peace where they have come from and send them back to help develop their region. Government must work with the Chiefs and learned people of those regions they have come from to encourage them to go back where they belong because there is more wealth there than in Accra. Why fight among yourselves? The Sodom and Gomorrah settlement is one of JJ Rawlings' prominent legacies. He even tried to accuse Kuffour's gov't for attempting to resettle the squatters as planned. There's no need to protest or cry about anything because the place was simply deplorable for humans to live. You must thank God for gov't to have come to your rescue by demolishing those awful structures. Think of the way forward instead of complaining; it's just in your best interest! Think of Ebola and Cholera that could kill you and your children, spreading to other parts of Ghana and beyond.
