We simply do not have the correct figures as no one is collecting those and even if anyone is, those who smoke will not admit it because of the stigma and severe penalties. The seminar is definitely a step in the right direction because victims of drug abuse are mainly the users themselves so to punish them in a manner which is more damaging than the drugs themselves does not make sense. The MPs who are refusing to review the law clearly are not intelligent enough to be in parliament as they are unable to think objectively and progressively. The colonial brainwashing is having a crippling effect on some members of society including our law makers. I believe the NACOB boss, Akrasi sarpong is a strong advocate of a review of the law and I salute him for his efforts. At the moment the police are the main beneficiaries of the current law which allows them to extort money from users with the result being only those who can't pay ending up in prison.
