Ghana is, for all intent and purposes, HIPC. If you mess up and IMF has to come to the rescue...you are a dead man walking.
In fact most Makola women can do a better job of running the Ghanaian economy. The Mazola ladies at least, manage to turn over a profit at the end of the day.
When I was in Ghana only two or so years ago, One Pound £1.00 was ¢3.5. On this website today £1.00 = ¢8.6. I am sure by Christmas it will be nearer ¢10.
That is what currency depreciation is all about. No point in saving and if you can't afford it today, forget about being able to afford it tomorrow.
Ghanaians will take a 50p T-shirt and vote for a person they damn well know is incompetent.

Some have two to four cars that use a lot of fuel and the farmer in the village only uses to ride public transport once in weeks or months.
Those who are using must be made to pay for it in full.
What government must try to do is to get tbe public buses runing to serve the poor in society.

What is Subcidies? most Ghanaian don't know what it is. So if you say it shoul be removed someone will call you a foollish man. Subcidies on fuel means that government going to buy fuel for the prise of lets say 50 cedis and sell it for 30 cedis to you.
that means the government didn't get the money back after selling. so the next time the covernment is going to buy the same amount of fuel it needs to add 20 cedis to the 30 cedis to be able to purchase it and where is the 20 cedis going to come from? it has to be borrowed from somewhere. it high time the government tel the truth

It is no secret that export of cocoa has been a significant source of foreign exchange earnings for the country which governments over the years have used to strengthen the cedi. The Kufour administration invested so much in the cocoa industry to boost production from 450 - 700 thousand tons, and then hit one million tons some few years after they left office. You know what?Mahama and his NDC cronies felt no need to support cocoa production anymore because in their opinion it belongs mostly to Akans of the opposition strongholds - few Voltarians, Fantes or Northerners are doing cocoa farming. So for a long time, they decided to starve the industry of resources resulting in the drastic fall of production to about 600 thousand tons. Now realising the harm it could cause the economy, they quickly announced producer price increases in the attempt to boost production, albeit too late. This lack of foreign exchange earning is the real cause of the dramatic fall of the cedi. The saying is true that "wo to adu bone a ebi ka w'ano".

Mind you,it is not Kuffour who decides the world commodity prices.You can produce more than 20 million tons of cocoa annually and still find yourself worst off.There was a time in our history when Kwame Nkrumah intentionally burnt large stock of cocoa beans in the country to create scarcity in the world market.When there is scarcity in the market the prices go up again automatically.On the contrary,if there is too much of cocoa beans or gold in the market,the prices fall rapidly more than you can imagine.That is the same problem with petrol or any other commodity.The only out is to add value to whatever we produce in the country and reduce drastically exportation of raw materials.It has nothing to do with Kuffour,my friend.Thank you.

They have petroleum reserves to cushion the effect of price shocks. In Ghana "we promise to uphold and defend what our heritage won for us" by selling our sovereign everything to foreigners!!!

When we buy and sell the local currency for our selfish gains, little do we know such acts cause the very hardships the rest suffer.
