The appointment of the Judiciary is similar to that of the EC chairperson. The constitution does not give the president authority over the selection of this class of people in the system because; they are expected to be independent and impartial in discharge of their duties. If the president were to have substantive powers in their appointment, that would ultimately compromise the independence and impartiality that is required of them implicitly or explicitly. They are not in the category of his ministers or all those in the executive branch where he has complete hire and fire powers under the constitution, and they are not expected to be independent of the president and his administration's decisions. Also, they leave office when the president leaves but the judiciary and the EC chairperson will remain after the president's term of office expires.

The issue is not the president being subservient to the judiciary or the council of state as some are trying to portray; the measures put in place are critical checks and balances in the constitution to prevent the executive from dominating every branch of government in the system, which if allowed to happen by given the president substantive powers to appoint and fire members of the other branches, the situation could easily metamorphose into autocracy now or in the future. For instance, who will impeach or judge the president if he over steps his constitutional powers or commits a crime? It will definitely be the judiciary. And who will act as a referee between him and other political players during elections? It will surely be the EC. So the president cannot be allowed under the constitution to substantively appoint them.

A case in kind is the 2014 fire issues where he personally accused the opposition NPP of being behind. Subsequently, he invited FDNY to come down and ascertain the cause and source of those fires. To date, he has not been able to make public the said report because it led to his own people only trying to give the dog a bad name in order to hang it.

This president is not serious. Ghanaians are politicising every issue because stupid utterances from so-called leaders in our society, especially JDM himself, for example, knowing for sure there is a suit in court regarding the interpretation of EC chair appointment, he goes ahead and appoints anyway, showing total disrespect for the judiciary

JDM forgets that mutual respect of the presidency for the judiciary and also the legistlature permits our institutions to grow in our young democracy.

For him to come back after throwing dust in the face of the judiciary and starts preaching "Polarization of Issues based on politics" is totally nonsensical to me and self-selving.

To be sure i could understand and relate with the Comments made in this Forum , I read the President 's Speech over and over again and my conclusion was simple . I realized that , besides two Guys who move forum to forum with the same copied incoherent statements the rest Critized the President without showing any sign of comprehension of the Speech . Their critics were scripted and completely unrelated with the Speech. All that I read were President promised "this and didn't do that " which to me sounded very Pathetic . An American President once quoted that. " Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You - Ask What You Can Do For Your Country "" I bet one Can hardly see or hear that in Our Beloved Country . To me it's about time we show maximum respect to the Leaders of the Country , lend our Prayers and support and show our willingness to contribute to the betterment of the Country. Insults are Dirty Weapons that always bounce back to the Giver !

What they know best is Corruption and Mismanagement of the nation's resources, which is putting unnecessary and avoidable pain on the country.
