Rawlings, as a foreigner ruled Ghana for twenty years with Konadu Agyemang Rawlings' undiluted support, and now she turns around and questions someone whose Ghanaian citizenship is paralleled with John Jerry Rawlings? How could Mrs. Rawlings question Mrs. Charlotte Osei's nationality and keep mute about her husband's.

I think Mrs. Rawlings raised concerns about the EC Chair's nationality to gain publicity. After all the former first lady is known as someone who thrives on controversy, and she's deliberately making much ado about nothing regarding a fellow citizen's nationality to acquire "relevance and newsworthiness" all to undermine the party she and husband helped found for obvious political reasons.

Every town, village and hamlet in Gonjaland has received a facelift with new facilities such as roads, toilet facilities, markets, mosques, good quality water projects, electricity extension projects, etc. The question is did J. J. Rawlings do the same thing to Voltarians when he was in power for twenty years? What about Atta Mills. The good old Prof was in power for three and a half years yet he was not selfish to only concentrate on his people in Ekumfi Etuam and the central Region but rather his whole thought was for the general good. No wonder under the care of Prez Mills, Ghana achieved a growth rate of 11%, single digit inflation and the smooth implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy where newly recruited police personnel received the nominal equivalence of 500dollars as monthly salary. Compare these achievements to the nepotism and selfish policies of the Mahama government that has crippled the Ghanaian economy. I really weep for Ewes and Fantis whose votes brought Mahama to power and yet are the hardest hit by the current hardship prevailing in the country.

What is important is if she is qualify or can do the job,publishing her story on the front page is not wrong,what she said is also a national issue and very important for Ghanaians.

If an individual has acquired his/her citizenship through naturalisation, that individual can go that far, but will certainly be barred from holding certain key positions. Yes, Alvin Schwazineger could and was constitutionally allowed to contest for a governorship which he put his name forward and won. Schwazineger, though Austrian by birth became a governor in Calif ornia. What Schwazineger cannot do is he cannot be a president of the United States because he is not American by birth. I believe Rawlings' mother is a Ghanaian, just like Obama whose mother is a U S citizen, but have an African father. Nana Konadu has initiated an interesting debate which should be discussed properly.

The Electoral Commissioner's post is not an ECOWAS position. It is one created for the citizens of the country for which the vacancy exists.

For that reason, it is imperative that whoever occupies it must not display divided loyalties one way or the other. Certain factors influence one's mindset ( marriage, political leanings or sympathies, nationality, religion etc) so it is imperative that these things are checked from the onset.

If you study the last Nigerian elections, you'd notice that PDP retained its hold over the Oil rich states - Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and left the rest for the APC. There is a reason to maintain that.
Now if the newly-aappointed EC chair has skeletons in the cupboard, I beg, )ya, una comot from the chair. make she comot before we unearth further constitutional flaws.
There are equally competent candidates for the hot seat.

Mrs Charlotte Osei was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Commercial Bank Limited and the Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited. She had earlier served as a Senior Legal Officer for the Ghana Commercial Bank and a Company Secretary/Legal Adviser for the Unibank Ghana Limited. There is no doubt over her Ghanaianness.

If you give birth in South Africa and you don't have proper documentation as parents your child can not be register. In other jurisdictions before such a high profile appointment, the candidate(s) whole history is dissected completely and thoroughly to rule out such a situation, so no surprises are sprung on an unsuspecting citizenry. The appointment process needs to be opened up to better scrutiny and the pendency of the case filed by Richard Skky at the Supreme Court and the hasty appointment thereafter by John Mahama, makes the issues murkier with respect to the nationality of the new EC Boss. Why the haste by John Dramani Mahama and what is the nationality of the new EC boss? They are legitimate questions.
