If the govprevented think it's cool to have animals living with human beings, Elephantiasis will never go away in Ghana.
Why not tell the people of the northern Ghana not to be living with dogs, for its from Dog shit, when stand on gives them Elephantiasis.
A proud government who thinks it cool to give people animals to live with them. Animals lives on farms not in house.
River blindness, why should a country like Ghana still have such a disease when our rivers are dried. It's a fly than can be eliminated easily by spreading on the trees by all rivers.
Stop thinking about treatment and think about prevention. Use the money to get rid of the flies and we wouldn't have to buy the white man medicine.
It's call Exploitation and nothing else. They still want to control our wellbeing by selling what can be prevented.

Stop exhibiting your ignorance. Dog shit never gives elephantiasis. The filarial worm which causes elephantiasis is transmitted by mosquitoes. Get that into your thick skull.
Donboli also spare us your pseudo populist rhetoric about prevention. I do not know how old you are but go and read about the oncho control spraying of rivers which started in 1974 and was done for more than 40 years.
Your ignorance knows no bounds because these diseases which are tagged neglected tropical diseases are being tackled now using mass drug administration as a preventive strategy. I will forgive you because the original article should have explained things better
As for your rants about the Whiteman exploiting us it is simple to ask you whether the computer on which you typed your contribution to this forum was manufactured in Ghana.
You like many Ghanaians claim to be nationalists only in name and I describe you as arm chair critics, vulture philosophers, and unrepentant parasites. It is the reason the country is retrogressing.
Finally save your rhetoric about exploitation for other ignorant Western conspiracy theorists. The Black man is always complaining about being cheated yet does nothing. Vultures indeed.

I'm a proud alumnus of KNUST (then known as UST), but this is embarrassing – i.e. GHANA FINDS BLAH-BLAH... What was the role of the foreign collaborators and where is their credit? Did KNUST actually develop the antibiotic doxycycline or it’s the product of some foreign pharmaceutical entity? What really was KNUST’s role in all this? A mere executing agent for trials supervised by, or at best, jointly with foreign/German entities that also funded the trials? It would be fair to say “Ghana finds yadda-yadda...” if Ghana (or KNUST) actually developed the drug and established its efficacy on whatever disease.
By the way, is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation giving KNUST Crop Science US$ 2.67 (two dollars and sixty-seven cents?! Or is it perhaps US$ 2.67 million? Lazy journalism except for sensations.

Ghanaians are happy that one of our Universities has found the cure for elephantiasis and onchocerciasis. If not for people who volunteered for the researchers to know the efficacy of the drugs, they wouldn't have come this far. It's rather unfortunate the Ibola vaccine trial at Hohoe iseeting do much resistance. Parliament is full of people with little knowledge in Science and Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh,a product of KNUST is not helping his colleagues understand the situation.

Why do commit intellectual dishonesty? Ghana did not find treatment for anything? Doxycycline (IPA: /?d?ksi?sa?klin/) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the tetracycline class that is useful for the treatment of a number of infections, including bacterial, protozoal and helminth.
Under the brand name Vibramycin, Pfizer's doxycycline product received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in 1967. Other brand names include Monodox, Doryx, Adoxa, Doxyhexal and Atridox (topical doxycycline hyclate for periodontitis). It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, a list of the most important medications needed in a basic health system. Don't throw dust into the eyes of unsuspecting Ghanaians.

It wasn't your initiative, you didn't organize it, you didn't pay for it. We all love Ghana to be great, but don't give credit where none is due.

Wrong Caption:I wish to contribute to the ongoing debate by stating categorically that the caption is inappropriate. The Oncho center at Hohoe has long since been treating patients with onchocerciasis.I have worked there before and l know what l am talking about. The center is on the premises of the hospital but autonomous. It is adjacent to the mortuary.Patients of Poncho normally develop lumps at different parts of the body.Local anaesthesia is done and surgically removed. The lump could consist either of micro or macro filarial worms.Sections are made of them and turned into permanent slides. They are then sent to the parent lab in Germany for further analysis. Patients become fully cured with drugs from Germany which l cannot mention here so 'Another cure for oncho discovered' should have been the caption.
Good work!
Fantastic, kudos.
