This Tamale airport is financially unwise decision because it can't pay for itself. I know my northern friends here will hate my comment but its the absolute truth. We Africans are so dumb, we use our emotions instead of our brains to make decisions.

As we try to find ways to develop, we also have to find ways to decentralize our development and de-congest Accra and Kumasi. Ghana is not only Accra Kumasi. And I even wish we have airport at Sefwi, Hohoe, Afram plains, Koforidua and where you can go and come in within two hours.

It was alleged that Northerners could not pay electric bills because they are poor. It took the foresight of J J Rawlings to get the North hooked up to the National grid. Nigerias 2nd international airport is over 1,000 km from Lagos but with the movement of the capital from Lagos to Abuja, that became the 3rd international airport. What more Kano is linked to Lagos by rail too. Allow all parts of Ghana to develop.

You and selfish interest rendered Ghana and the whole of Africa useless today by removing the Osagyefo. Yet you people still brag and even talk about even dumsor. Its just a renovation. Nothing more. The Tamale airport is still not an international airport. Big planes cannot land there. Its just govt propaganda after delaying the project for far too long.

Building an International Airport in Tamale is not a bad idea so long as you planned it in a way to make it financially viable right off the bat. The airport as currently built will require taxpayer support for at least 20 years.

In my opinion government should have built or allowed to be built under private initiatives, international airports at Kumasi and Takoradi first. Why, if one looks at air and road traffic patterns out of Accra, Kumasi is the most popular destination. I am guessing that at least any international flight arriving in Accra has at least 30% of the passenger heading immediately on to Kumasi - Government should have survey data on this.

Takoradi is the next after Kumasi because of the oil and thus direct flights (mostly cargo) from Houston, Aberdeen and Narvik would more than pay for the upkeep of this airport.

Tamale will not have the volume of traffic to sustain the upkeep of an international airport unless he government encourages the aviation industry to setup a major aircraft serving hub at Tamale where planes from all over the region come to be serviced. Ghana Civil Aviation Authority should invite a major Aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul outfit such as SR Technic of Singapore, Lufthansa Technik, Rolls Royce Engines, GE Aviation etc. to become major tenants at the Airport.

This is the sole and only reason the government constructed this airport to international level. Just to serve as an easy transportation hub for Hajj travelers. How many people from Accra or other southern parts of the country will travel through the pot-holed Tamale road to catch a flight outside the country? This is a classic example of our misplace priorities which has left the country wallowing in enormous debts. You don't have to upgrade tamale airport to international level in order to show that you are sharing the national cake equally. Upgrading Kumasi Airport to international level makes perfect economic sense but due to evil intentions and hatred from this government, this will never be done.

How can anyone link the tamale airport to Kumasi? Because it was NOT built in Kumasi it is good.
In fact it would be nice for EVERY city to get an airport. Nothing wrong with that.

But to build an airport for the future when the economy is being destroyed now is crazy.

I can imagine that those who make such comments are old and have not visited Tamale or the north for a very long time. If they are young, then I Will be ashamed that we have such idiots in Nkrumah's Ghana today.

For the notice of those fools who just joined Ghana from Mars: Tamale has changed and it is today the fastest developing city in West Africa. It is rising as an emerging Africa city and it is believed that by 2050 Tamale Will develop to surpass Accra and the big village of Kumasi. Don't be Afraid that Tamale Will grow beyond your village. Just come to Tamale and also invest because that is.what the wise Southerners are doing in Tamale today.
