I can recollect the good old days in the late 50s and 60s when my late mum used to go to market with fine design woven basket from the northern. She used it each and every day and besides recyclable and environmental friendly.. Roadside hawkers sold the Rice, beans and gari in green leafs. Agadii, Fanti Kenkey Abodoo etc were all wrapped in natural leafs so we do always copy blindly if it is killing us?

Back in those days when you go to departmental stores like UTC, Kingsway, Ghana House, Glamour you are given brown bags after you have bought an item. We didn't have plastics all over the place choking the gutters and waterways. Sankofa is way forward.

Countries like Rwanda, Mali have banned it and those who are caught even at airport pay a fine on it.

In Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Indonesia for example 5 star restaurants serve on the very leaves our waa chee sellers were using. We are being fooled. San Francisco and many other states within the USA have banned the use plastic bags so what are you waiting for JDM?

As a leader, JDM remember that you cannot please everybody and each decision you take will find favour or disfavor with a section of our populace but if you want to lead then look forward. Just ban this destructive plastics which is not only creating havoc for our people and the environment but to many other species on which our livelihood depend on like fish in the ocean and rivers. Ghanaians should be at the forefront or vanguard of the movement to ban plastic bags because we ultimately live on fish and we cannot see to it that our source of nutrition is put on peril. This will be a grotesque betrayal if we ignore one of the greatest perils of our time. Go ahead JDM just banned it!

Ghana has to join the rest of the world in terms of effective recycling programmes. Recycling, and/or proper waste management programmes are not only good for the environment; they are also good for the economy because such effort is one of the better ways to respond to Ghana's unemployment problems. Therefore, instead of threatening to ban plastic products, government and the plastic industry need to work in partnership to manage the enormous waste, which emanates from plastic products.

Does it make it look like it is a serious meeting where there will be so much talking that everyone will become very thirsty and must have that emergency plastic bottled water in front of them. Cannot it not be served from a bulk filtration unit in glasses ?? We have take away boxes made of polystyrene which do not degrade even in 10,000 years and yet everywhere you see this thrown all over the place in gutters and floating in rivers. When I proposed this ten years ago to Mayor Adjiri Blankson, it did not get any attention. When he attempted to implement it, there were threats by the producers. So this is the result, filth of enormous proportions.

I dreamt of a leader who will save Ghana and bring it to the same level as Singapore. That was unfortunately a bad dream. What we have is a leader who goes round distributing sandals and pampas. I am only 12 years but i think i can do better.
