As captain, if Appiah really wanted to take the penalty kick himself, or if he wanted someone else to take it rather than Asamoah Gyan, why didn't he insist? Why did he acquiesce when Gyan ran for the ball and decided he must take it? Were there no rules to follow? And what was the coach's own decision? What's still painful for Gyan's penalty miss was his selfishness, the desire to win the Golden Boot Award.
All said and done, Paintsil is giving too much credit for Appiah alone for the Stars' triumph over the Czech Republic. Indeed, it’s an over-statement for him to say that Appiah masterminded the Stars' victory over the Czech. What about the coach and other members of the technical staff?
