I suspect bog printed far too much money and that is what came back to bite us. Putting dollars into the system is having the effect of absorbing the excess liquidity in the system. If the government doesn't permanently keep the absorbed cedi out of circulation or at least match it's release to gdp growth, all the effort would be wasted.
Any budget deficit have to be financed somehow and asking the central Bank to fund part of it outside of reserves will mean external borrowing or printing of money which devalues the currency and causes inflation.
Let's see what happens during the election. The wasting of government money during the election will only be felt months after the event.

jayjay, of Johannesburg; I fully agree with your expressed sentiments of our Ghanaian Politics which has always been bordered between the two major Parties, being NPP or NDC(COCAINDC).
I know for a fact that even "keeping fit programmes " in Ghana has now been on Party Lines. So we must now agree that it may be quite impossible to have a good married relationship without either the husband or the wife belonging to a different of the two Parties.
However, dealing with both Inflationary measures and the CEDI Appreciation or Depreciation can NOT be made different from what I have just espoused.
This is because, most of us in the Diaspora over the last FORTY YEARS can easily tell when we know that our local Currency is being MANIPULATED BY THE BANK OF GHANA.
And the same goes with the INFLATIONARY FORECAST.
It must be clearly understood that the immediate Depreciation of our Cedi and the Mismanagement of the Economy led to the culmination of the IMF.
That is to say, the country Ghana couldn't EXPORT much of her Commodities, thus relying on massive borrowing to pay DEBTS much of which may also had gone into PARTY COFFERS and INDIVIDUALS.
In fact there are so many that I can actually dwell on this scenario, including the Government maintaining their HOPE OF THE CONSTANT REMITTANCES FROM US IN THE DIASPORA, WHICH ARGUABLY COULD BE THEIR NUMBER ONE FOREIGN EXCHANGE PRODUCT.
Now, for the CEDI to gain such sudden APPRECIATION which does NOT in anyway collate with our Manufacturing Exports, coupled with some Businesses relocating outside the COUNTRY, DUMSOR, making it hard for local Manufacturers and other many factors: WHO THE HELL WOULD EVER ACCEPT THIS PRESENT PHENOMENON???
If the IMF being our present ADMINISTRATIVE RECEIVERS had given us some gradual HOPE of Economic Recovery, we may had accepted that; but for these POLITICALLY INSTITUTED CRONIES, it does sound DUBIOUS in the minds of the good Ghanaian People.
This same Dr. WAMPAH recently threatened the DULLARD MAHAM GOVERNMENT if MONIES owed to the Bank of Ghana was NOT paid on time as promised.
So in the final chapter, the Bank of Ghana should NOT think of the GOODWILL of the GHANAIANS IN THE DIASPORA for him to succeed IN MANIPULATING THE CEDI.
THINK IT OUT LOOD, MATE!!!!
Best Regards,

A LETTER TO MY FELLOW FLOATING VOTER
Dear brethren,
Every political party has tagged and considered us as the final decider in every election. Yes,that's exactly the point because we've always voted based on factors or elements best know to ourselves which we can't reveal to the world.
We've chosen from day one not to align ourselves with any political party but vote for the political party with the best approach, message and promises to FULFILL.
We've always had the fate of mother Ghana at heart. We've decided in the four corners of our mind to do away with any government that will make this country retrogress instead of progressing. We've always been called the "neutral" people who vote based on principles, policies and for people ready to make our Ghana be a better place for us and the future generation.
Today, I come to you with a humble appeal to make just this comparisons:
*will you vote in the best of our neutrality, for a party that thinks of the next generation or a party that only thinks of winning an election through investing all our state resources that could have been used to better the life of the ordinary citizen?
My dear brethren, let me be sincere and direct for once without mincing words or doing the bidding of any political party. Let's kindly and humbly compare the 8 years rule of the NPP with all its challenges and the almost 8 years rule of the NDC with all the resources, loans and donations? Bueii yewu!
In 2008,We were promised a better Ghana by the late professor mills(may his soul rest in perfect peace) and I must admit things as we are currently facing would have been better under president mills if he were to be alive today but God knows best. Our late president had been on the political front seeking for the mandate of the people for 8 years and had been in every corner of the country so understood better the dynamics of being a president and attending to the needs of the populace. We had let me say an "accidental' president who could have performed well but due to lack of experience, honesty and surrounding himself with sycophants milking the nation dry and finally he developing the dead goat syndrome( whatever we say or do doesn't bother him cos he has seen worse) it will be difficult for this nation to move forward.
I read online this morning that our debt from 1957 (independence) to 2008,when the NPP was booted out by us the kingmakers was 9 billion ghc and with this NDC 7-8 years administration we brought with the hope to make an impact, our debt has risen from 9billion gch to 89 billion ghc, how?? I mean how?
The Nhis we once enjoyed is no where to be found, the free maternal care is off, capitation, school feeding has become few selected school feeding and even with problems etc.... Is this the better Ghana we were promised turned bitter Ghana?
Dumsor has collapsed most of our businesses, massive hike in prices of goods, petroleum, brain drain is on the rise because life has become unbearable for the majority of our youth due to unemployment with bans on jobs due to IMF conditionalities or the few jobs being tagged job for the boys ( job for party members).
I ask again, is this the better Ghana we were promised?
We have been deceived, we have been mislead with white elephant projects, we have been taken for granted simply because a few of us still remain gullible and selfish.
We are the kingmakers and let's feel proud of that perception. We shouldn't allow our gullibility or negligence cause the future of this country in the hands of this self centered government. We've had enough of inflicting suffering on us and pretending to care with freebies when it's getting to election year. I watched from afar why happened in Talensi and I just told my other siblings to take very good care of their voter's ID card since that was the only visa with the right choice of candidate that will let us see and enjoy the Ghana We've always cherished. Let's not allow our gullibility supersede the destiny and bright future of this country.
Let's say no deception, let's say no to those who don't have this nation at heart, let's say no promise and fail. We are suffering today because it was our own money they used to give us gifts, envelops, laptops etc..and they will still use the same antics to convince us come 2016 (robbing Peter to pay Paul). I can't tell you to refuse it when they come cos it's part of our taxes but I will only urge you to shine your eyes and make that choice not for yourself alone but for the generation to follow.
We should never be despaired because we still have that chance to right every wrong done or currently happening.I am referring to those of us who mistakenly or intentionally voted for this government but have now regretted our action and those of us who failed or refused to vote on election day and have now deeply regretted our action.
We need to secure the future of this country. Our decision is still supreme and sacred. Let's keep this in our heads and heart and do the right thing come 2016.
You can't fool anyone by pretending you are a floating voter. Both NDC and NPP are not better alternatives to solve the problems of the average Ghanaian.

There is neither "Currency Magic" nor "Cedi Magic" Wampah is dreaming. Simple economics:-laissez-faire-economics - One of the guiding principles of capitalism, this doctrine claims that an economic system should be free from government intervention or moderation, and be driven only by the market forces. Centered on the belief (termed invisible hand by the 18th century Scottish economist Adam Smith) that human beings are naturally motivated by self-interest and, when they are not interfered-with in their economic activities, a balanced system of production and exchange based on mutual benefit emerges. Laissez-faire (French for, allow to pass or let go) economics originated in the 18th century France where economists (then called 'physiocrats') such as Francois Quesnay (1694-1774) and Victor Riqueti-Marquis de Mirabeau (1715-89) became hostile to subsidies and discriminatory economic measures of then prevalent mercantilism. They believed in a bountiful nature and innate goodness of humankind, and asserted that governments should leave the individual alone except when social liberties are infringed. In 19th century, this philosophy became the dominant economic thinking in the Western world. But soon its failings reflected in the great disparity in distribution of wealth, harsh treatment of workers, disregard for consumer safety, and spread of monopolies, became clear. By the mid 19th century, opposition to laissez-faire economics began and governments in all industrialized countries intervened on behalf of workers and general population. Factory laws and consumer protection laws were enacted and growth of monopolies was checked. Early 20th century saw breakup of monopolies in the US and (after Second World War) nationalization of essential industries and services in Europe. Keynesian economics (which advocates government intervention in the national economy) further undermined it, a process spurred by the great depression of 1930s. From 1970's, however, the pendulum swung back to laissez-faire economics (renamed 'market economy' or 'free enterprise') and brought deregulation of business, and progressive removal of trade barriers, which is continuing.

These are elementary stuff. Exactly what Wampah is doing. Do you remember the same Wampahs pronouncements a few months ago on foreign currency holding accounts that almost collapsed the economy completely and he had to reverse those actions? Or typically of Ghanaians you have short memory. Where from this magic now if not from IMF. The mahama economic team is just infantile in economics like you or rather useless. Why refer to 16th century theories in 2015? Meaning Wampah has gone back to 17th century theories and the Ghana economy is doing well? Then Ghana's economy is a primitive Stone Age economy

so u see this currency roller coaster a cedi magic? This is not what the central bank does. There was very little assessment of the impact of the the cedi depreciation on businesses. The sinusoidal currency movement isn't any good move because this isn't stability. what businesses are looking for is stability but this isn't it. The BoG has gotten it wrong again.
The recent cedi strength will only bring more hardships because many of the importers had already have to shut down due to the weak currency. The new sign of currency strength will only sink the existing importers unless they do not reduce their prices for at least a year. So where does this leave the exporters? Higher costs, lower revenue and on top of that the cost of generating energy themselves.
