Good, for once J.H. Mensah supports Dev. Plan. Why did you then support coups. The country has gone down because you derailed all plans as a result of your selfishness. Thank you are old and you grown with wisdom.

Ten (10) vital things that Ghana’s 40-Year National Development Plan must do:
1. Communicate effectively: it should not be written in academic jargon;
2. Communicate effectively: it should depict financial projections based on authentic indisputable revenue indicators;
3. Communicate effectively: it should be translated into at least five (5) Ghanaian languages;
4. Should incorporate periodic statutory publication of progress & completion reports via media;
5. Should incorporate periodic dialogue with NDPC via a media-covered national “people’s forum”;
6. Should incorporate central role for National House of Chiefs as a key player in plan oversight;
7. Be original: it should seek to be devoid of foreign “research” content;
8. Be original: it should incorporate the use of indigenous knowledge “best” practices;
9. Be original: it should incorporate “out of the box” measures of economic productivity;
10. Lastly, the document should be implemented in phases of six (6) to seven (7) years.
NB: On a personal note, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, don’t’ you think it is about time you gave directives and updated your outfit’s—NDPC’s—website?
Or at least, communicate what is being done with the website in the interim. You are already making some of us very skeptical about your transparency, and ability to effectively “roll out” this steering document within a “domestication” context. If you cannot effectively communicate this vision to a majority of Ghanaians, it will simply wind up being a vision that conveniently allows external stakeholders to rape Ghana!

The big question is whether this plan has the full support of the major opposition party, NPP. I'm not referring to president Kuffour. If NPP is not on board, then it's a waste of time because if they come to power, they will ditch this plan in a twinkle of an eye and come up with their own plan. I suggest that this exercise be extremely non-partisan, else it will be dead on arrival.

In case you don't know, JH Mensah has contributed to this country in many ways. As a young technocrat, he left his job at the World Bank to work for Nkrumah.
After Nkrumah, he worked for NDC, then Busia, was in parliament during Limaan government. He was the leader of opposition during NDC one and finally served in Kufuor government as Senior Minister. You should hope you are able to achieve ten percent oh what JH has done for Ghana.

The presidency has too much power for this to work. The party in power controls all appointments and contracts. They abrogate contracts at will, cause wasteful judgement debts and halt any continuity for development.

I think 40yrs is too far . I suggest 10yrs will do then review if the objectives or projects are not finished. I do not know what the projects are but if you take one project after the other then if we decide that our priority is for instance roads rehabilitation . all roads within the capitals and leading to the capitals are rehab. Then after 10 years we review whether the objective has been achieved if not review or to another priority area and so on. Iam o only expressing my opinion.

Any such news about all political parties conferring to work on a national development plan is welcome. I for one prefer to give this initiative a chance at success rather than dwelling on pessimism and negativity. Singapore for instance had a very long term development plan for their educational system, that evolved through at least three phases to arrive at what it is today. I shall be following the development of this new venture. August 4th is the launch date.
