I think the 'members' should try to be innovative. That is what two of my mates and I did after we completed KNUST. Individual businessmen in Ghana are willing to invest in creative ideas.

There is unemployment everywhere, but nowhere do unemployed people pride themselves by forming an association. Come to the public service and see how abysmally your colleagues who have been employed there are performing. Who said because you are a graduate you must be employed. You can employ yourself. Seriously we have an association for unemployed grads? What a country!!!!!!! We're spending scarce resources to equip students with skill that they can't apply when they graduate. This actually makes the case for asking tertiary students to pay for their own tuition. If they did, there would be incentive for them to choose their courses carefully because they'd need to recoup their investments or they would make alternative decisions to do something else with their lives rather than spending 4 years in college only to be unemployed. There are opportunity costs for every decision you make or do not make.

In all fairness, graduate unemployment is a problem all over the world. In UK, the rate is closer to 40% if I'm not mistaken. US hovers around 30%. Countries like Greece and Portugal are seeing extremely high rates.

Now to the "Director of Operations" (what a cool title!):
It's great you've successfully created a network. Now seize the opportunity to do a lot of ANALYTICS and provide useful services:
(1) Collect from members their degrees, fields of study, specialties, and most important of all, MARKETABLE SKILLS. You would make such data available to the Ministry of Labor.

(2) Network with Human Resources officials as well as hiring managers from all sectors, both private and public. That way, you can alert members about open positions. Furthermore, you could easily supply eligible candidates when the need urgently arises in an organization.

(3) Provide employment seeking tools to members: CV creation, cover letter drafting approaches, interviewing techniques, job-seeking methods, etc. You could even create a social media website for members, where rumors of job openings can be shared, etc,

Please do not just go for a degree please go for degrees that are marketable not only in Ghana but globally.In today's world if you don't then remember you will come out and wait to see your degree rot then the blame game starts.Just think globally and out of the box and remember degree is not all there are other trades that are also globally in demand which why Germany is always a strong economy they bank solely on degrees but on various trades such as Carpentry,machinists,mechanics,plumbers,truck drivers,electricians etc.you will see several with high school certificates or even degrees who go into such trades.Do not let the degree eat you up because at the of the day you need money to pay your bills and to put food on the table.You can form all kinds of graduate unemployed associations but that will not cut it,just do your research well before you sign up for some courses because education today is pure business they will take your money to sign you for some courses that has no market locally and even globally.
