  It is so sad because of lack of funds, these criminals have been let out.
  
  Ghanaians have to learn to work harder and pay for these damage souls to be kept in prison till properly reformed or we will suffer.

  this is blank statement. we all know our judges are not the smartest and we dont know the crimes of these individuals. these judges give criminals the dumbest sentences ever. Someone steals a goat and hes given 10 years... does that make any sense to you? our criminal system most of the time punish the poor and always let the rich get away.

  Are there any programs/systems in place to help them ? if not these people will be back in jail in no time. Its a good thing to eliminate the burden but we have to put in place programs to help these people

  Tens of thousands of first offenders in Ghana are serving long prison sentences for crimes that should get only a small fine or a few months prison.

  Prison sentences in Ghana are way too harsh in comparison with Australia, UK and other Commonwealth countries.
  
  There is an urgent need for sentencing guidelines to be reviewed by the government.
