Folks, don't we remember the feud between Frema Busia and the former Security Capo under President Kufuor over small arms infiltration into our Society?

I have long considered the idea to refuse registration of locally manufactured guns as wrong-headed. I can understand how any gun smuggled into the Nation would be denied registration. But to refuse a locally manufactured guy a license is very unwise. What are we supposed to be benefitting from such a ban on locally manufactured guns?

So, what do the authorities do with smuggled guns that show up at their offices for registration but fail to be registered? Are those guns confiscated? And then what?

Meanwhile, whether or not locally manufactured guns are registered or not, their owners would use them when they have to, and the authorities may not even succeed in retrieving the weapons after the fact.

If the confiscated guns are not destroyed, but sold, do we keep audit of them and track who eventually owns them?

If, again, owners of registered guns fail to re-register them, why doesn't the authorities go after them to find out what might have happened to those guns? For all I know, those guns could end up in the hands of others not eligible to own guns.

If the locally manufactured guns meet the basic quality standards why would our Government not allow them to be registered? This ban smells of the usual idiotic control of our imports to benefit only those cronies the Government's it wants to help enrich by offering import and distribution rights to them alone.

It well fits into the paradigm of restricting local manufacturing in general to flood our Markets with foreign goods that the Government's crooked partners-in-Trade only have the license to profit by.

Such has always been the bane of our Industrial stagnation and dwindling development.

What can we do to restore the confidence in civilians for that matter the public that look no fears the security agencies or agent responsible for maintaining law and order is at your door step. Then there is this research topic, 'fear of crime does it result in defensive action' the response is yes a higher% responded yes.
