  Those stowaways are in no financial position to reimburse the government for their airfares, should the government decide to send them back. If they could, they wouldn't have been in this predicament in the first place. I would suggest that the MP for Takoradi organize a fund-raiser to purchase tickets for them and once they get back home, the MP can task them to perform some sort of community service to re-pay their airfares.

The ambassador could be guilty of mis-use of funds if directed money from other items to buy tickets for the stowaways. You should not be talking about issues you know nothing of.

I don't think this Ambassador would say what he said if the names of those poor stowaway guys were some sort of Awunis, Fuseinis, Sampanas , Atingas or Trokosis. Idiots, how much would it cost this ambassador and the NDC to get these young boys back home, compared with the monies spent by the taxpayer to keep the numerous house cooks, drivers and garden boys of these undeserved buffoons in government.   If you had followed the story you would not have rebutted the statement made by the ambassador. These guys were able to pay about $1000 each to a connection man to put them on the vessel so they should be made to pay their own trip back to Ghana. This should serve as a deterrent to others who might be planning another stowaway as we write. No freebies. I live in America and I write with facts that America will not financially, support or sponsor any such thing.

  I don't support stowaways but the government should pay for them to get back home,we waste money on unnecessary things,we just wasted thousands of dollars to send some so called celebrities to America to attend Ghanafest in Chicago,if we can waste that much money on these so called celebrities paying all their bills may be also paying them per diem in the name of foolishness then money to transport 4 Ghanaians back home from Angola is just a peanut, after all they were not the first and will not be the last,our first president Kwame Nkrumah used the same means to get to America that they were going to and interestingly the same Takoradi port which is well known for that,who doesn't like sugar.

  My friend, let sleeping dogs lie. The stow-aways committed the crime of illegally boarding their ship. They were very lucky that the personnel of the ship had mercy on them and gave them a raft to safely get ashore. Secondly the personnel handling the ship will deny that the stow-aways were ever on board that ship. After-all there would not be any evidence to prove that they were indeed on that ship.
  
  The offense, upon discovery of stow-aways in a ship, is punishable by heavy fines on the shipping company and sometimes the dismissal of the senior staff of the ship including the captain, by the company. This is the reason why sometimes, stow-aways are thrown into the sea-waters by personnel of ships who do not want to sacrifice their careers.
  
  What we should be concerned about now is how to get the stow-aways back to Ghana - that is if they are interested in doing so. Otherwise, they can be left alone to try their fortune in Angola as well since it seems that the govt is not particularly interested in footing the bill for their return.

  If we have such Senior Diplomatic representatives who have no linguistic finesse and who therefore do not know how to be diplomatic in their speech and whose embassies are not of any use to their nationals when in trouble, do we still need to keep such embassies which at the end of the day are just a drain on the fast-collapsing economy?
  
  It seems that our govts are not aware of the fact that the quality of diplomatic staff is used by the host country and other resident diplomats to measure the importance and political value of the countries which they represent. Thus far, this govt in particular seems to think that our embassies are either for merely 'making' show or compensating unqualified sympathizers for party loyalty with diplomatic postings.
  
  
  Our entire diplomatic service has as we speak, been inundated by all kinds of buffoons, political opportunists and foot-soldiers who have collectively succeeded in reducing the image of our country to that of a banana republic.
  
  It is not only the unbearable dumsor, the perennial lack of potable water, the inability to pay workers bad salaries, the failed educational system, the high levels of pervasive corruption, the failure of state institutions and utilities to perform as expected, the administrative ineptitude at the highest levels of govt, the decaying state infrastructure and the lack of basic services that give an indication that a country has reached the point of doomsday. Diplomatic staff are supposed to be the finest personalities of a given country but in our case, it seems to be the other way round, making it another failure that discerning Ghanaians are also lamenting about.

Paying fat salaries to cronies for nothing.As poor as we are, there should be just 1 embassy in the sub- region, that should be stationed in South Africa! How could we afford embassies the world over just to pay workers who mostly have nothing to do.

They don't want to listen when people like myself who have lived abroad for many years tell them how good they have it in Ghana, if only they would be serious enough and look for a job in Ghana. The grass is not any greener on the other side if you consider all the expenses that come with your salary. And I'm a nurse. Trust me. I know what I'm talking about. Moreover. it's not the government's responsibility to fly them back home. hope it's a lesson well learnt.

As an Ambassador for Ghana, even if your consulate has no budgetary allocation for repatriation to Ghana of the four Ghanaians who are sadly languishing in Angola jail, a seasoned and thoughtful Ambassador would take the issue straight to the Castle and have serious discussion with the President as to how best to get our brothers home in body and in flesh. Instaed, you mindlessly and stupidly took the easiest and placating route by shirking your official responsibility as an ambassador to cover your lack of effectiveness, experience and being a {green horn) diplomat.
  Mr. Moses Bukari Mabenga, your action and response to the issue has shown clearly that you are not ambassadorial material and as such unfit to occupy the position.
