I have been calling for the demolishing of illegal strictures constructed on waters ways since the killer flood killed more than 200 people in Accra, and have even called for the exercise to be extended to all the regional capitals, cities and towns where such structures exist. I feel the exercise should include securing our pavements or walkways from traders who extend their structures to cover the walkways or pavements and force pedestrians to walk on our streets endangering their lives. So, containers and kiosks placed on these walkways or pavements should be taken away or demolished on sight. In fact, the illegal structures don't only threaten our lives, but the scenes also depict how primitive and uncivilized we are as a nation.

Sadly, the officials who facilitate these illegal actions in our society, either directly through bribery or indirectly through negligence of duty, are left free to enjoy their booties. They are now lying low for the dust to settle so that they could continue lining their pockets at the expense of this nation and its people. It looks like our laws are meant for the week and vulnerable, leaving the real culprits whose actions lead to such catastrophes. They must also be sought and dragged to court to answer and be given long jail terms, if found guilty, for lessons to be learned. We can't keep criminals and nation wreckers masquerading as civil servants in our society. Moreover, what has the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and his two deputies been doing to uphold Ghanaian laws regarding the environment?

I have seen many smokers throw cigarettes in gutters so the water or in this case so the rainwater douse it. Did the guy pour the petrol in the gutter or wherever his cigarette landed. I agree that the investigation should report what started the fire but to question the guy and retain the guy as if he committed a crime is ridiculous. What assistance are they trying to get from the guy except some five seconds response of telling them he threw his cigarette into a pool of water? BNI go after the right people - Goil and the government agency responsible for safety inspections.

It is good we are all looking at the various causes of the failure or non functioning of the state , we say its a failed state because it does not benefit the people in any way. The compromises made in the constitution totally erased any true obligation for public officials /civil servants to work for the welfare of the people . Rather they created privileged , untouchable , can do no wrong , non accountable groups that like vampires suck the people dry . We now have whole groups that are practically above the law . Laws are meant to oppress all those who are unlucky enough to have their tribe , ethnic group or relatives not affiliated to the ruling tribe or elite. We have developed a system of governance worse than than the Indian castes or monarchy of the middle ages as no development can ever succeed that doesn't tap all the potential of the whole nation. Whole groups based on ethnic backgrounds are excluded this was started by Achampong who appointed his Ashantis , continued by JJ who had a preference for Ewes and now Mahama who only trusts his relatives and northerners . In all fairness the we can not blame the ordinary northerners and ewes who have taken advantage of this mess did so because the bogus constitution allows it. This constitution encourages elitism ,nepotism, ethnocentrism , hegemony and a privileged corrupt class of civil servants . There is no partisan politics only tribal affiliations which facilitate enmity . There can never be national unity so we Akans opt to secede since we now have the numbers and population to create a sustainable state . In the late 40's and 50's the population of Ghana was around 5 million today just the Fanti speakers of the western and central regions are more than 5 million which is more than enough to create a new state , Africa can only unite , develop and be free when these imperialistic colonial borders are broken. We all know the political arena is polarized based on ethnic divides rather than political ideology and all sides have deeply dug their trenches and can not afford to loose which is a ripe situation for political violence which will lead to ethnic war . Any war started on this principle if it lasts longer than a month will automatically lead to the break down and secession of the various nations or tribes as the white man would classify. Let us not focus our energies on the hatrad of our enemies rather diligently prepare to create our own nation out of this mess. The blue print for creation of new nations and the obligations are in the Bible and a any nation ignoring this requirement given by God will suffer. God gives you a language and territory its up to you to fight with blood for freedom , long live the republic of Akan

Please I beg to differ on this statement. Acheampong, with all his mismanagement, was never tribalistic and never appointed Ashantis only in his govt. His govt was tribally neutral...even his worst enemies would easily attest to that. Rawlings was very tribalistic, that is true! He killed a lot of Akans and destroyed their businesses and seized their properties. And Mahama has also shown and is still showing a great deal of tribalistic tendencies in his appointments which heavily favour his northern tribesmen, even to the disappointment of the Ewes who literally voted 100% for him.

You did not mention Nkrumah, Busia, Akuffo, Kuffour and Atta Mills so I wouldn't want to comment on their appointments. But please spare Acheampong this rod. Let us give the devil his due. Acheampong was never tribalistic!

Rather, the institutions and authorities responsible for monitoring the operations of petrol filling stations and building of structures along waterways failed the nation. Do they have a living witness ?, have they seen that piece of cigarette as an evidence, have they been able to see the starting point of the fire?, who informed them and where was he/she standing in reference to where the smoker was standing. we do not need to pay any judgement debt in future in addition to huge loss incurred.

Texas had some towns completely under flood waters some few months ago. Drowning was not reported as a cause of any of the horrible deaths. Throwing your lit cigarette into raining water to kill the fire is not a crime. Did Ofosu know at that fateful moment that leaked GOIL petrol was sailing on the face of the raining waters. Did GOIL operators post warning sign if they realized that fuel had leaked. And how, at all, under that circumstance could they post any warning sign conspicuously.

Causing inflammable fuel in your custody to leak into the the large flooded areas was the cause of that painful deaths. the amount of fuel that leaked was not small, and the committee would know it by the measure factoring method they used, but they are quiet over it. If GOIL's action is not crimal it should carry heavy pecuniary liabilities. We should call spade a spade.

If the above questions are not answered, then there is no case against Mr. Ofosu. The primary cause of this disaster has been there for long time and instead of the Government accepting its negligence of duty for causing such catastrophe, it is looking elsewhere for a scape goat.

In March, 2012 then late President Mills was invited to USA where a dinner was hosted in his honor for a loan of $795m (Dollars) to reconstruct the Accra Drains and the Western Rail Lines. Parties to this deal being GM and Conti Engineering signed their part of the contract where Mr. Oko Vanderpuje and I think Ms. Attivor signed on behalf of Government of Ghana. The failure of Mr. Vanderpuje to do a follow up upon returning to the country, a typical Ghanaian ostrich mentality ended the contract complete dead.

They should stop their nonsense and harassment of the poor innocent individual and put the blame on the door steps of incompetent Oko Vanderpuje and Goat Mahama. Both are the culprits of that disaster, period. E&OE.

Is it not natural to quench fire with water? What then is criminal about throwing a lit cigarette into a flood of rain water?

A Ghana SPECIALISTS committee is telling us that the cigarette could have floated on the surface of the water, till it arrived at the innocent Goil Station, and there, decided to ignite the riding petrol?

But if on the other hand, the petrol had already caught up with the poor smoker, before he dropped that cigarette, did the ignited petrol spare him his life (as a good collaborator), and went for other victims?

Even though we are staunch believers in God, and sometimes even witchcraft and sorts of nonsense, we would need an IQ below 65 to admire these findings of these SPECIALISTS, who have pocketed a lot of GHc to come to this presented result.

I cannot believe why none of all those who lost their properties, injured and the families of those who lost their lives have not as yet SUED the AMA and the Ghana government for the negligence that led to the flooding which led to this disaster. The AMA and Ghana government should be held responsible for negligence something the Mayor has said by his remarks "I have failed the people of Accra" but felt short of resigning alleging "I am not leaving today or tomorrow". Immediately after the floods, bulldozers from the AMA and the government have been seen dredging the Odaw and and many parts of Accra to allow free flow of water; something which they should have done earlier. Also there was news that the NDC government collected money to do the dredging but refused to do so. Investigations should be made to authenticate this news. They have to tell us what they did with that money if found to be true. The Finding of a scape goat to someone who was standing somewhere smoking cigarette is just NONSENSE. There is no scientific proof to that. The victims should talk to the bunch of lawyers we have in the country and they will be very happy and willing to take the AMA and government on. It is not too late to do so.

Shame unto you, BNI. From the word go, the Mahama administration was bent on finding somebody, a scape goat to accuse for the huge Goil fire that engulfed houses and caused human deaths just to save face and to hide their incompetency and corrupt practices of allowing the oil companies to operate in their own selfish terms without any checks and regulatory supervision from the government. Shamelessly, it fulfilled its wish with the help of BNI that concluded from their so called thorough investigation that poor man Kwasi Ofosu was the culprit for the fire disaster. Ghanaians deserve to know or be told the truth. The conclusion of the BNI investigative report is anathema and should be rejected in totality.
