This Dr. Afriyie, is in a different world. His advice to the doctors should not be taking serious. The leadership of the doctors union are treading on a wrong path to destruction. They are going to fail and will leave their members with a sour taste in their mouths. The general membership need to consider hiring labor union experts to handle their negotiations. The labor profession is completely different from the medical profession . Been a doctor does not mean you have the skill to negotiate a contract.

No doubt there is lawlessness in Ghana. The Catholic hospital is absolutely right to sack those who withdrew their services. There must be discipline in Ghana and someone must take the lead.

I presume that the NY after your name indicates that you reside in New York. If that is the case, please quietly stay there and leave us who love our country and know our country, to deal with the problems of our country in the best possible way.

What is a labour union expert? As far as I am concerned labour union experts are just a bunch of bullshitters who worm their way into other peoples issues and exploit conflicts to the best of their personal advantage.

Are you not aware that the Ghana Medical Association hired one of those fakes who go around under the illusion of that title of a labour expert, about 10 years ago and all that the flamboyant quack did was to chop them small and then stab them in the back in the end?

Any serious professional group should be able to handle its own socio-economic and labour matters when confronted with the need to do so. Maybe Civil and Public Servants who do not have the necessary confidence and ability to handle their own affairs may require these sharks that you refer to as labour experts to handle their business for them. Doctors, I presume, are learned peoplewho can stand on their own two feet to deal with any incompetent govt.

The bottom line of this matter is that most govts of underdeveloped former colonies have, like everything else, inherited the obnoxious capitalist attitude towards labour issues. That is to pay workers badly and recommend same for the private sector. The idea is to pay all workers as little as they can get away with, whilst elevating themselves (govt) to the glamorous status of kings and queens and paying themselves excessively and accordingly.

This nonsense is further encouraged by the western multilateral financial institutions that our hopelessly blind, useless and incompetent govts depend on in the illusion that they will benefit from their advise to chalk an appreciable level of development. Of course, this never happens.

To all intents and purposes, our useless govts and their retinue of inept and disoriented economists and financial advisers, have not only been fooled at each and every step of the way, but also we have continued to under-develop in every sense of the word and get poorer and poorer with the passage of time.

As we are routinely confronted with increasing pains of poverty, workers and their labour unions rise up to demand more from hapless govts who are naturally, within the context of a neocolonial economy, incapable of satisfying their needs and demands.

Our dumb govts have continuously made the mistake of neglecting the demands and aspirations of a middle-class oriented medical profession to the whims of a failing economy. The inevitable result will be conflict - serious conflict. Our doctors not only know that they deserve to be paid more than the cocky little upstarts who are strutting around and parading in the corridors of power. They also know that any doctor with a minimum of two years experience, can easily get another job elsewhere with a salary that is ten times what they are earning now. Not to talk about highly advanced and conducive working conditions which they can rely on to sharpen their skills and perform miracles as many run-away Ghanain doctors abroad have become famous for.

So Mr Nii Nortey of NY, upon all your NY it seems that it is rather you who is in a different world. As I always say, if you follow a polical party which is in essence incompetent, corrupt and shameless, you will also end up in like manner.

When Kufour and NPP government including would be NPP presidential candidate Nana Akuffo-Addo including yourself as so-called minister were in power, you sold Ghana Airways which had operated for more than fifthty years and which was bringing in foreign currency to balance our economy as well as Ghana telecommunications which had operated more than seventy years shared the money among yourselves. Above all the NPP and Kufours government left all the major roads, streets and Fly-overs in the country dusty and uncompleted for more than fours until NDC government under the late president Attah-Mills and present president Mr. John Mahama completed all these infra-structures for the country. These useless radio stations such as Peace FM which even has to move its office to Abeka junction because dust in his office at mile seven at the time could not criticize Kufour and NPP government at a time. These useless and dumb doctors in Ghana think that they can take the whole nation for a ride. We are talking about a country that is almost bankrupt and these doctors think they can hold the nation at ransom until it borrows money to pay them large and ridiculous salaries.

These so-called doctors think that they somehow should earn salaries similar to their colleagues in Western Countries. Well, a couple of things! The doctors in the West do actually PAY for their college and medical education, some owing as much as $300,000 by the time they graduate medical school. Unlike Ghanaian doctors who are all "James Bonds, with licenses to kill", doctors in the West do HAVE TO ANSWER to the regulating boards for every person who dies under their care. Some even lose their ability to practice for very minor mistakes leading to a patient's demise. In Ghana, these dummies GET rewarded instead!

With this said, can Kwaku Afriyie stop the politics of stupidity and realistically call on the govt to set up an appropriate regulating body to monitor these doctors? The GMA has lost all moral authority to be regulating doctors in Ghana! How can such a corrupt organization monitor its members for the general good? Wake up Ghana!

I wish our MOH would modify such existing frameworks and have all doctors sign onto it. The strategy used to achieve this end may defer from one person to the other, or from one institution to other institutions. The fact that doctors embark on strike actions does not mean that they don't love Gh. Jesus said when you sew a seed it would not sprout if it does not first get rotten in the ground. In the world at times we are force to use evil to kill an evil. Doctors are well placed to know much about this. It's of interest to note that between 1939 & 45 the Catholic institution existed but they couldn't save the world of a 2nd world war, Europeans had to struggle through these moments of tribulation by themselves, neither was it able prevent the slave trade in the 16,17,18, & the 19th century. Am a Christian but my interpretation of Christian values does not correspond with that of the diocesse of techiman.

This is where the NPP as a party cannot extricate itself from being the manipulator of the doctors agitation. If I were Kweku Afriyie, I will have review the guidelines of engagement critically. The Catholic Church is in no way under pressure from Gov't to terminate the Housemen but compelled to act as a result of the rules of engagement.
