This should be taken seriously by the government. Doctors who work for the government should be ban from running their own clinics. The government should insist in its counter offer that all doctors working for the government cannot own a private practice because it is a conflict of interest and it should be made clear to these doctors. How can a doctor live in a government resident allocated to him, watchman, and even some steal government equipment, divert patients to your practice and other amenities and not think this is aconflict of interest? These so call government doctors can never leave government work because of the huge benefit they get. Lawyers in Ghana need to brace themselves and start bringing malpractice law suits against doctors. If Doctors want all these benefits from the tax payer, they need to serve the tax payer right. Nothing should be given to these wicked people for free.

1. Govt must remove every allowances, medical trainees including all nurses find their own sponsors. They have to pay fees for using government facilities. After their training they can go wherever they want for better condition

2. Government should change the educational curriculum: start al medical trainings from primary

2. through JSS, SSS, to university.. equip every kid with home nursing knowledge.

3. any doctor to work in ghana must be contracted with strong clauses and the contract term should be 5 years minimum

4. all doctors must be levied with different payment to the state.

5. any doctor to lose any life through carelessness must be charged

6. now move on with your strike no problem.

Hospital Administration must make sure these doctors work for their salaries and not just goof around. They must report on time and not leave until they have worked their full hours. As it is, they must not leave when there are admissions for gravely ill patients or emergency admissions until the patient is seen and the condition is stabilized or has reached the point where the Nurses can continue treatment and observation.

Lastly, they must treat their patients with respect and warmth, and not with insults. They are in health care service and must do just that, care for their patients. Sick patients do not need aggravation of their situation by rude doctors.

I beg to differ that the old docs can fill the gap if GMA members resign en mass. We are talking of over 2000 docs here; how many retired docs are in the system? Besides, some retired docs like Dr Sory are not clinicians i.e they have not cared for patients - they are public health professionals. Also remember that the so called retired docs toiled all their working years under the current sordid conditions that the current generation seeks to improve . I know of docs who retired and have regrets for sacrificing so much for Mother Ghana working in the public sector - Retirement package almost non-existent! . I guess those retired docs willing to chip in are those who held public health positions ( very little clinical knowledge) and who enriched themselves whilst in office. Those retired clinicians I know WILL NOT make that mistake again working in the public sector!

Is it true that their prsident said "We may go back to work because of appeals from chiefs, religious leaders and other opinion leaders," he told Reuters. "We are likely to return to work, and not as happy people."
So it that they are violating the law, but paying attention to chiefs, religious leaders and other opinion leaders?
