I agree, but, this govt has no strategic aims in borrowing, except, to pay for recurrent expenditure & arrears in the system, settlement of debts & looting. Ghana is in trouble.

When you are borrowing large sums of money with high interest rate, you will not even be able to pay the interest on the loan before the borrowed money finishes, putting you in a vicious cycle.

And from this government's policy on borrowing instead of creating, I can see why. Why does a country with the riches of Ghana need to borrow a penny from anyone? We have so much REAL wealth....and they run around borrowing ink and paper notes from America and Europe.....and then use real resources to pay them back on the ink and paper WITH INTEREST!? It is either madness, neo-colonialism, or both.

TT ask yourself what has the previous borrowing been used for and as the article above has said most (probably all) is going to finance debt. The government wants to pay down more expensive debt by seeking cheaper debt, it's like getting a lower interest loan/credit card to pay off your more expensive one.

That may make sense, but if government (as it seems to be the case) is just getting loans to pay off debt and bills then there is no capital expenditure.

How can a country develop if loans are being used to pay off loans, Borrowing is fine if it IS USED for captial developemnt, where in Ghana do any of us see this (new road networks, transportation, engineering projects, etc).

Please let's be more critical of this.

Keep on saying this but can anyone (hand on heart) that the level of corruption in the system does not impact Ghana's ability to be self reliant for capital investments.

No one wants to stop chopping money but are happy to go borrow...it's madness. Honestly we could be a trillion dollar economy but the issue of corruption is so deep that we would still be borrowing money.

I absolutely believe that if we had serious political leaders who were absolutely determined to at least half corruption Ghana in the next few years would be easily self sufficient and able to develop the economy to a TRULY middle income country (with all the infrastructure and social development with it).
