Appointment of the Judiciary is similar to that of the EC chairperson. The constitution does not give the president authority over the selection of this class of people in the system because; they are expected to be independent and impartial in discharge of their duties. If the president were to have substantive powers in their selection and appointment, that would ultimately compromise the independence and impartiality required of them implicitly or explicitly. They are not in the category of his ministers or those in the executive branch where he has complete hire and fire powers under the constitution, and are not expected to be independent of the president's decisions. Also, they leave office when the president leaves but the judiciary and the EC chairperson will remain after the president's term of office to serve Ghana and not a particular administration.

The issue is not the president being subservient to the judiciary or the council of state as some are trying to portray; the measures put in place are critical checks and balances to prevent the executive from dominating the other branches of government in the system, which if allowed to happen by given him substantive powers to appoint and fire them, the situation could easily metamorphose into an autocracy now or in the future. For instance, who will impeach or judge the president if he over steps his constitutional powers or commits a crime? It will definitely be the judiciary. And who will act as a referee between him and other political players during elections? It will surely be the EC. So the president cannot be allowed under the constitution to substantively appoint them.

All the political parties have agreed for a new voters register but only the ruling party. The reason why NDC is against a new register is beyond contemporary thinking. After careful studying all the reports from all the parties, the EC will have no choice but to go for a new register and this time, all the parties should open their eyes like how the eagle tracks its prey from the skies. They shouldn't allow NDC to set the standard by inserting foreign names to gain any advantage.

A game warden came upon a duck hunter who had bagged 3 ducks and decided to "enforce the laws pending." He stopped the hunter, flashed his badge and said, "Looks like you've had a pretty good day. Mind if I inspect your kill?"

The hunter shrugged and handed the ducks to the warden. The warden took one of the ducks, inserted his finger into the duck's rectum, pulled it out, sniffed it, and said, "This here's a Ivorian duck. Do you have a Ivory Coast state hunting license?"

The hunter pulled out his wallet and calmly showed the warden an Ivorian hunting license. The warden took a second duck, inserted his finger in the bird's rectum, pulled it out, sniffed it, and said, "This here's a Bukinabe duck. Do you have an Bukinabe state hunting license?"

The hunter, a bit put out, produced a Bukinabe hunting license. The warden took a third duck, conducted the same finger test, and said, "This here's a Togolese state duck. Do you have a Togolese state hunting license?"

Once again, only this time more aggravated, the hunter produced the appropriate license. The warden, a little miffed at having struck out, handed the ducks back to the hunter and said, "You've got all of these licenses, just where the hell are you from?"

The hunter dropped his pants, bent over, and said "You're so smart, YOU tell ME!"

CONFUSION IN NDC OVER VOTERS REGISTER: KWABENA ADJEI AND YAW GYAN ACCUSED OF LEAKING INFORMATION TO NPP.

There is currently uneasy calm at the headquarters of the NDC. Reports say, the party's big wigs are shocked over how the opposition NPP is clearly exposing one of their long held electoral strategies. It is believed the NPP could not have given the specifics they gave about foreigners on our voter register without insider information. A deep throat source at the NDC's headquarters say the party's leadership are pointing accusing fingers at former Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei and former organizer Yaw Boateng Gyan for the NPP's expose. According to the source, Dr. Kwabena Adjei who hails from Nkonya-Ntsumuru in the Volta region was the mastermind behind getting Togolese nationals into our electoral roll during his chairmanship era. Yaw Boateng Gyan who comes the Brong Ahafo region is said to have coordinated the influx of foreigners for registration in the Brong Ahafo region. The finger pointing is fueled by the fact that, Dr. Bawumia in his presentation on the register concentrated so much on the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions and was curious about the special NHIS registrations in the two regions.
The two former national executives are believed to be very peeved after they lost their national positions to people who were sponsored by President Mahama. Dr. Kwabena Adjei was recently in the news lamenting his neglect and and inability to pay his medical bills after he lost his Chairmanship position. Yaw Boateng Gyan is on record to have publicly blamed former Chief of Staff and Mahama's right hand man, Prosper Bani for his defeat to Kofi Adams.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC's general secretary has in the wake of Bawumiah's revelations mounted a spirited defense against the call for a new voter register. This has left many Ghanaians wondering why the NDC and Asiedu Nketia are so keen on resisting the compilation of a new voter roll by the EC.
The largest opposition party, NPP has been leading the cause for a new voters register for the 2016 election. The party took its call a step higher when it made startling revelations of thousands of foreigners on Ghana's voter register in a recent press briefing.
