Grasp the sense in what ex-President Kuffuor is saying here.
The N.R.C. govt. of the late I.K. Acheampong is far, far better than the N.D.C. govts. past and present.
Every nation must try as much as possible to be self reliant and also create an export oriented economy.
Just grow up and learn from nations like Germany and India where they try as much as possible to produce what they consume.

Really? I'm shocked you can even write and read English. Every Ghanaian even in the remotest village remembers the nation-wide advertisement during the re-denomination of the currency which was always tagged with "The value is the same". On the contrary I think the govt is doing it on purpose.... they keep borrowing in dollars, and the dollar more than doubles when exchanged in the local currency. They can do more with that money especially if the cedi looses value. My friend who was saving in dollars to buy land for his project last 2yrs just got half of the money saved in the bank. In less than a year, the value of the dollars he saved was more than enough to pay for the land. The govt is using the same tactics because no one really feels the depreciation of the cedi except exporters and citizens who have to cater for their families abroad.

You're a wise man... That is Ghana for u... But there's a positive side of it: should the cedi continue depreciating for the next 2 years (although will trigger hardship in the country)it will reduce certain unnecessary importation of goods by we lazy Ghanaians... And the government is fully aware of that, since it cannot find a solution to our crave of imported goods...very sad
We as Ghanaian should sit-up, work and produce our own goods (can you imagine that every single thing we eat in Ghana is almost imported.. we are a disgrace but yet we think we're intelligent and civilised) what a joke of a nation

I recall a lot of news on the airwaves about embezzlement n robberies reported in the new currency that confused a lot of Ghanaian. The amounts were so huge people wondered if it was the old or new cedis. It was certainly the new cedis. Beside that point the cedi lost some value due to the re-domination. Yes, u may have exchanged 10,000 old cedis for 1 new cedi but trust me the value was not the same.

Mr Kufour is either confused or has no clue,if he is asking the government or blaming the government for the depreciation of the cedi and the same time saying our economy is " import dependent then he should know that is the reason why the cedi is depreciating which nobody can do anything about.
When his government removed the zeros the cedi was about cedi was 90 pesewas to 1 US dollar but at the time he left office it was about 2 cedis + to the dollar which should tell him what he is saying is not possible, let us stop playing politics with the cedi and leave it alone to fight for itself as other currencies are doing,up until we start exporting more than we import which will not happen in a near future we cannot do anything about the cedi.
While China is devaluing its currency to boost its export we are crying for appreciation to boost import without thinking of how we can produce more to export.

Ali Baba Kuffuor, don't you know that when you removed the zeros from the cedis and stole it without backing it up with production , it was bound to be in this mess.
All of a sudden the cedis artificially became stronger than the dollar .Your voodoo economics brought us here.
Because you were only interested in stealing the old currency you and your corrupt squad of thieves could not see through that eventually the cedis will find its way back to its actual value.
The best you should have done was to consult mathematicians ( problem solvers) to inform you that removing zeros from the cedis will be a short term remedy and instead , print higher denomination currency like how the Japanese and Italian or the CFA .
You probably think you achieved something but in reality you caused this problem.
The cedis is actually finding its way back to its actual value, no surprises to some of us who knew and understand the world economic.
Infact you are lucky , if you were a leader in China you would have been executed long ago.

The Cedi is falling at a faster rate more than ever because the government is fiscally impotent. The people in government steal from the state and exchange the local currency stolen into hard currencies and deposit them in foreign countries.
The government must promote agriculture. It beats my imagination how Mahama who was directly coordination SADA give out money to individuals to rear guinea fowls, which would later fly to Burkina when the money could have been used to provide dams for irrigation in the north. The money that was thrown out to grow trees in December of 2012 could have been used to encourage farmers in north to increase their yields. It's disheartening to see Ghanaian women travelling to Burkina to buy tomatoes and onions. The tractors which K4 imported to boost agriculture in the north were shared amongst ndc bigshots with Ayariga spearheading.
The decline of the value of the Cedi is self inflicted. The Cedi depreciated during K4's era, the reasons are well known. There was world economic melt-down and fuel prices hit record level of USD 147. There was no oil but now there is.
What the government must realise is than loans cannot improve the value of the Cedi. We must improve agriculture production and boost the manufacturing.
The ndc have failed and not deserve another chance in 2017.
Let Ghanaians eschew tribalism and do what is right by voting out Mahama and ndc

Defenses galore! The decline of the cedi even started right under K4. There.were no economic fundamentals for the redenomination. Over night the Cedi became stronger than the $ and other major currencies such as the euro, cfa and naira. How manage? Yes we need to manage the devaluation but K4 should accept responsibility for the false start on this which was characterised by looting of state cash.

NOW THAT TULLOW, VODAFONE, ETC ARE CREATING A HUGE DEMAND FOR REPATRIATING ALL THEIR PROFITS IN DOLLARS AND MAKING THE NEW CEDI USELESS, THE VERY FOOLISH CORRUPT KUFUOR IS COMPLAINING ABOUT CEDI EXCHANGE RATE, KWASIA!

Kufuor had all the chance in the world to prevent what is happening to the cedi today but did nothing.
Ghana has an over-supply of doctors and professors but suffers from an acute shortage of brain users.
A president does not have to be a super-brain but must at a minimum be able to supervise the mobilization of super-brains to address national challenges.
The less-than-super-brain bureaucrats will never, on their own, mobilize super-brains for any reason because by so doing they will expose their incompetence.
But Ghana's leaders don't understand what leading a country means apart from more beer, more women, biggest hump-back and more cash.

Massa; This man Kuffour is intllectually bankrupt ; there is nothing anybody can do about the depreciation the cedi because the fundamentals of the economy are wrong;an element of the economy that is the macro -economic variables which includes the collection of taxes are very poor ; the economy today is dependant on the service industry buy and sell ; there no added value to any thing ; people are rather encouraged to become filght by night contractors awaiting government contracts to build roads ; hospital etc ; once these projects are finished there nothing more to do in the economy ; all resources invested in the these contracts cannot be diverted into the productive sector ; the economy is therefore stuck ; to say that the crdi should halted marks the uninterllectual nature of Kuffour ; the cedi cannot be halted ; even china is ibn mess because although a semi capitalist economy they finding it difficult to control the Rimmbi in China ; how can Ghana with these poor thinking mooroons like Seth Terpkor ; Wampah ; Mona and ato Forson control the Cedi -It is just a MIrage chase there is nothing anybody can today about the cedi.
