Whilst clearly all the soldiers cannot be held responsible for the attack, unless the victims were flying in the air at the time the warning shots were fired, it can be assumed some deliberately fired into the crowd.

Was it pure coincidence that the soldiers happened to be in the vicinity? When was the exercise planned. Was there authority for the commander who gave the order for the soldiers to embark on such an exercise? Did the leader on the ground give an order to fire, did none of the soldiers see any of their colleagues firing into the crowd, is there any evidence that the landowner asked for the army to be there? Has this happened before. It doesn't necessarily have to be with this particular landowner but do landowners ask the military or other state institutions to '' protect '' them.
Arresting all 23 soldiers is stupid but releasing all of them is even worse.

That the life of an individual who, amongst a group of others, was merely protesting for his rights, should be summarily terminated by an illegally hired bunch of rogue soldiers is just another evidence of the sad tragedy that has befallen Ghana, the once great country that Kwame Nkrumah founded.

The ridiculous and insensitive cooked-up excuses that are now being offered by the said Military statement are as frivolous as they are daft. The substance of those excuses have only brought up the spectre that the army is at best incompetent or they are simply lying to once again defend themselves against the many set-backs and damages that they have caused to the people of this country. It only goes to further prove that, ironically, the military think that the lives and rights of we the civilians who pay their salaries every month, are not worthy of their consideration and respect.

I have never joined the army for even one day service before, but even I know that in any situation where the army embarks on an exercise or operation of this nature, the area, as common-sense requires, is cordoned off from the public – especially if it is in a typically non-army environment. Even if the incident had occurred in an army environment, what at all was it that the army was doing there that was so sensitive and important that they needed to fire into the crowd and to kill just to keep them away?

Isnt it strange that the army should be called into the Millennium City for an operation just when the residents were protesting against the criminal activities of Mr Asmah, an NDC financier who randomly claims thousands of acres of land in that area? The residents who were protesting against Asmah, who had unilaterally taken over their lands and was demolishing their buildings, had more right to be there than the army. In fact the army had no business to be there at all.

As for the police, Ghanaians are sadly aware that they have lost their sense of purpose and values. Particularly when it comes to matters where the army is involved, the police are cowed into total submission and speechless cowardice. Besides, everybody who lives in Kasoa knows that the Kasoa police in general is firmly under the thumb of Asmah. It is said that he has built a whole modern police station complete with living quarters in the Millennium City area for the police. Now why would anyone go out of his way to be so benevolent to a national institution? Asmah subsequently uses the police in that area to supervise and watch over what he claims to be his vast lands, most of which he has not paid a pesewa for.

This unfortunate incident only proves that we have reverted to the law of the jungle where anybody with a little bit of money or highly placed connections can manipulate the police or the army to best of their intentions.

They have nothing doing seriously. This private developer has paid money and had the illegal deployment of the soldiers. .In is terrible of defence must be held accountable for such misbehaviour. The gun must not be used to intimidate or coerce people to surrender their properties through soldiers to cheats parading as property developers. Has the police administration seen how the military came to defend their men? if it were to be the police, they would have betrayed the personnel involve creating an impression that the police is unprofessional but what the soldiers did is very unprofessional but because the military hierarchy came to justify their action,Ghanaians are not seeing that as unprofessional conduct. Police Administration should learn from this. We all know that calm life is always in the night and they do it with the police so what the military hierarchy is saying is not true but just don't want to bring the image of the military into disrepute so they have to defend their men. To begin with, it was the police who were called in to clean up the mess that the rogue-soldiers had caused and not the other way round as you stupidly insinuate.

Secondly, the equally useless police also failed to properly do their work by locking up the murderers who were posing as soldiers because we all know that because they are also routinely beaten up by the soldiers, they are afraid of them.

Do you think they will have the power to do this if their unit commanders do not condone their senseless acts? Soldiers should never be brought into the public to calm any public tension without the involvement of the police . The tone of the district police commander is clearly an indication of frustration in the investigation into the issue. I'm sure the soldiers did not report to the police before embarking on the operation. That in itself is not right. Even the. National Guards in the. US who are charged with internal security of their nation do not operate without the local police. Now the soldiers are back to their barracks and feeling secured. The local policemen are the ones to clean the mess left behind

If the Police Service is incapable of performing its functions then we just don't need it.
