How does one proof citizenship? In most countries it is by a birth certificate, passport, naturalization certificate and certificate of citizenship. Unfortunately, we have not strengthened our system in order for one to proof their citizenship therefore we waste time making stupid and futile arguments. The onus is on the electoral commission to come up with guidelines to register Ghanaians, when the register is opened for the next elections. We should not register folks just because they are in line -- we should require some proof of citizenship(dual or whatever). We seem to trivialize everything and that could lead to some serious conflict in the future. The agencies responsible for births/deaths certificates, naturalization, passports etc. should work together with the EC to come up with meaningful guidelines. It may be painful when first put in place but it is time we insist on some national ID/proof of citizenship before anyone is registered, or use benefits such as national insurance etc. We have so many of the neighboring countries taking advantage of our facilities without paying taxes. Anyone who claims dual citizenship should also be made to pay taxes in Ghana. The government, and I don't mean the politicians in government, should put on their thinking caps and come up with guidelines, in the case of registrations I think the new commissioner should lead the effort, instead of just sitting docile and letting the parties lead the way. The work being done by NPP now,auditing the registers should be a function of the EC. The commissioner should wake up, we need improvements in the electoral process!

CONFUSION IN NDC OVER VOTERS REGISTER: KWABENA ADJEI AND YAW GYAN ACCUSED OF LEAKING INFORMATION TO NPP.

There is currently uneasy calm at the headquarters of the NDC. Reports say, the party's big wigs are shocked over how the opposition NPP is clearly exposing one of their long held electoral strategies. It is believed the NPP could not have given the specifics they gave about foreigners on our voter register without insider information.

A deep throat source at the NDC's headquarters say the party's leadership are pointing accusing fingers at former Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei and former organizer Yaw Boateng Gyan for the NPP's expose. According to the source, Dr. Kwabena Adjei who hails from Nkonya-Ntsumuru in the Volta region was the mastermind behind getting Togolese nationals into our electoral roll during his chairmanship era.

Yaw Boateng Gyan who comes from the Brong Ahafo region is said to have coordinated the influx of foreigners for registration in the Brong Ahafo region. The finger pointing is fueled by the fact that, Dr. Bawumia in his presentation on the register concentrated so much on the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions and was curious about the special NHIS registrations in the two regions.

The two former national executives are believed to be very peeved after they lost their national positions to people who were sponsored by President Mahama. Dr. Kwabena Adjei was recently in the news lamenting his neglect and and inability to pay his medical bills after he lost his Chairmanship position.

Yaw Boateng Gyan is on record to have publicly blamed former Chief of Staff and Mahama's right hand man, Prosper Bani for his defeat to Kofi Adams. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC's general secretary has in the wake of Bawumiah's revelations mounted a spirited defense against the call for a new voter register. This has left many Ghanaians wondering why the NDC and Asiedu Nketia are so keen on resisting the compilation of a new voter roll by the EC.

The largest opposition party, NPP has been leading the cause for a new voters register for the 2016 election. The party took its call a step higher when it made startling revelations of thousands of foreigners on Ghana's voter register in a recent press briefing.

Pay real attention here. How many people do you think holds dual citizenship of Ghana and Togo? Most of you mental midgets assume only the 76,000 voters in Togo and Ghana voters register hold that classification, big NO.

FACTS;

Togo is a country with 6.8 million people.

Of those holding dual citizenship between the two countries, not all of them are of voting age.

Second, not everybody holding a dual citizenship of the two countries logic holds will register to vote.

Third, there are Togolese who might have dual citizenship of Ghana living in Togo who will not bother to register in Ghana but will more likely register to vote in Togo. I will assure you People holding dual citizenship of the two countries and living in Togo who will register to also vote in Ghana will not be more than 20%. So if 20% of People with Togo and Ghana citizenship have their names in both countries register and that is 76,000, that means there 380,000 dual citizens of Ghana and Togo of voting age. If you add those who are not of voting age let's assume below 18 years of age are 220,000, that means we have 600,000 of people with dual citizenship between the two countries.

Do you believe of the Togolese 6.8 million people, about 600,000 hold Ghana and Togo citizenship cards?

Yes, there are people who can vote in Ghana and Togo because of dual citizenship and some of the 76,000 people might fall into that category but believe me, it will not be more than 3,000.

But that is the problem we do not have good answers to the questions you are asking -- until we ask for proof of citizenship we will have everyone in the neighboring countries on our voting register and use our amenities for free without paying taxes. Logically, what you are saying makes sense but we need proof and that is why the EC and other government stakeholders need to put their heads together to come up with some guidelines to clean up the electoral process. We can't continue to be a nation of confusion -- this is done in other countries we just have to emulate. it is stupid to register everyone in line -- we need to ask for proof of citizenship or be able to access a database to verify citizenship -- which is all non existence now. That is the work government needs to be doing instead of making stupid comments like who is and who is not a Ghanaian from what we read on social media. We should learn lessons from what happened in Ivory Coast because of similar citizenship challenges with the president. This could end in a conflict if we don't fix the system.

Gabby's alleged UK citizenship and his voting in previous elections warrant a thorough investigation. Ghana's constitution forbids dual citizenship and as a result, Ghanaians in Diaspora who have acquired citizenships of other countries are restricted by the law to vote in Ghana’s elections. Therefore Gabby, like anyone else who is a citizen of another country cannot simply vote in Ghana. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

A Ghanaian resident having his or her name on the UK electoral register is not a big deal. The reason is that all Commonwealth nationals, who are ordinary residents in UK are by law allowed to register and vote in some of UK's elections.

Also having ones name on the UK electoral register also helps in the application for bank accounts and various forms of credits.

Back to Dr. Apaak; a PhD holder is expect to know better than a party's foot solder. Ghana laws state that if someone challenges your Ghanaian nationality, it is the accused person who has to offer proof of his or her Ghanaian nationality and not the one making the allegation.

Those of you who watched or listened to the program knew that Gabby sent proof of his dual citizenship certificate to the host. In the same vain those who have their names on both Ghana's and Togo's registers have to prove that they are in deed citizens of both countries.

For your information, dual citizens are officially recognized in many countries and are not barred from participating in socio-economic activities in the countries in which those persons claim citizenship.

People cannot however just get up one day and decide to be of dual citizenship with any country of their liking. There is an official process that is followed before one can gain dual citizenship of any two countries. In fact some countries either do not recognize dual citizenship or they do not even accept dual citizenship of their countries with any other country at all.

For your information, a Togolese who lives by smuggling goods in and out of Ghana every day, cannot by that virtue or vice, willy-nilly claim dual citizenship involving both countries.

Neither can a Togolese or a Ghanaian who has a Ghanaian mother and a Togolese father for example, claim automatic dual citizenship of both countries.

In the case of the concerns of the NPP, thousands of presumably non-Togolese Ghanaian 'Ayigbe' people living or working in Togo and who have illegally registered to vote in Togo, have likewise registered to vote in Ghana as well. This has tended to cause severe electoral distortions in both countries and which the NDC is unfairly exploiting to its advantage.

I would think that any civilized self-respecting person any where and of any political persuasion would appreciate the problems that this distortion can cause and also approach the issue with the necessary concern. But not NDC people. As their party was founded upon cheating, dishonesty and the undermining of the constitution of Ghana, so also they persist on cheating to win elections.

The NDC has been largely successful in this regard so far because the NPP, the main opposition party, the NPP is also pitifully incompetent in this regard.

Reports say, the party's big wigs are shocked over how the opposition NPP is clearly exposing one of their long held electoral strategies. The two former national executives are believed to be very peeved after they lost their national positions to people who were sponsored by President Mahama. Dr. Kwabena Adjei was recently in the news lamenting his neglect and and inability to pay his medical bills after he lost his Chairmanship position.

Yaw Boateng Gyan is on record to have publicly blamed former Chief of Staff and Mahama's right hand man, Prosper Bani for his defeat to Kofi Adams. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC's general secretary has in the wake of Bawumiah's revelations mounted a spirited defense against the call for a new voter register. This has left many Ghanaians wondering why the NDC and Asiedu Nketia are so keen on resisting the compilation of a new voter roll by the EC.

The largest opposition party, NPP has been leading the cause for a new voters register for the 2016 election. The party took its call a step higher when it made startling revelations of thousands of foreigners on Ghana's voter register in a recent press briefing.

I listened to the NEWSFILE program on JOY fm this morning and whilst the discussion was going on, I also asked myself the same question about the validity of Apaaks qualification.

I was so incensed about the way he was presenting his views on the program that for once, I was highly inclined to call in to say a few things.

There is a minimum expectation at which one cannot accept an educated to fall below. Apaak did not occasionally fall below that line but he remained below that line throughout the program.

If these are the kind of characters around Mahama, then I am not surprised that he keeps on fumbling at every twist and turn and in the process, disgracing all of us Ghanaians.

I debated him on the phone and made him feel that his article was either full of lies or he has no idea about the issue he wrote about. Realizing he was losing the argument, he hanged up the phone. The fact that he holds a Doctorate in Archaeology does not make him an intelligent man.

Npp argument is not about people with dual citizenships but rather only Togolese so why make an analogy about people with dual citizenship? Either he intentionally wants to divert attention from the real issue or he is dumb, sorry to say it in plain language.

Dr Bawumia's points at a criminal involvement - an intejection which must have prompted immediate suspension and enquiry by the EC wether true or false. The process of having fingerprints captured into the system thereafter may be accomplices. The process of forgery is a mystery which transcends into near perfection except under lenses of the watchful eyes. Our history is young and the learning curve must be hailed and not trampled upon with haphazard conclusions. It will be to our benefit in the long run.

There were lawyers on the panel and they permitted the misinformation. The two countries involved, the UK and Ghana, permit dual citizenship.

The lawyers should have pointed out that it requires recognition of dual citizenship by both Togo and Ghana. This is not the case, so the best way is for the individuals to show the basis upon which they find themselves on both registers.

Don't come here on this thread and miss- inform the readers here at all. The registrar for eligible voters can always be fund in city councils across the United Kingdom. The process is as simple as abc. You can either register online or go there in person and do it, or ask them to send you the forms to register by post. Once the registrar is satisfied you are eligible to vote they process your application to enable you become an eligible vote for local and national elections depending on what your status is. Some are only allowed to vote in local elections but not in National elections because their status only allows the former. For others, like myself, we vote in both and yet has the right to vote in Ghana too.

But in Ghana if you don't phyisically register at a specific time, you're finished!

In the country where I live, there's no registration at all - neither online, on paper or anywhere. The tax and citizens registration office has up to date records on everybody. They know who are the eligible voters at each time. No registration is required. It is only if think you're legible to vote but didn't get a voter card/invitation that you can enquire why you didn't get the voter paper.

As Togolese citizens, they have to show they were either born in Ghana (with birth certificates), or acquired the citizenship by naturalization. The onus is on them to prove their citizenship. Mere word of mouth from clan and tribe relatives are completely unacceptable when dealing with dual citizenship issues. Gabby has dual citizenship but he can legally proof his Ghanaian citizenship with date and place of birth in Ghana.

That is why all government appointees work "for the pleasure of the president". Such appointments are never permanent jobs. Besides, they are privileged jobs, that is why they are appointed and fired anytime the president find their performances and character as "wanting"

The NDC's knows nothing about dual citizenship and a countries that permit dual citizenship. Togo and the likes of germany, Holland etc does not permit dual citizenship so one cannot be a togolese and at the same time a ghanaian. As a ghanaian you can only get togo citizenship if ONLY you renuiounce your ghanaian citizenship but as for UK one doesn't need to reniounce his ghanaian citizenship before, so please before any one will comment on this he has to research well because it's a disgrace for such people un government to misinform the public.

CONFUSION IN NDC OVER VOTERS REGISTER: KWABENA ADJEI AND YAW GYAN ACCUSED OF LEAKING INFORMATION TO NPP.

There is currently uneasy calm at the headquarters of the NDC. Reports say, the party's big wigs are shocked over how the opposition NPP is clearly exposing one of their long held electoral strategies. It is believed the NPP could not have given the specifics they gave about foreigners on our voter register without insider information.

A deep throat source at the NDC's headquarters say the party's leadership are pointing accusing fingers at former Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei and former organizer Yaw Boateng Gyan for the NPP's expose. According to the source, Dr. Kwabena Adjei who hails from Nkonya-Ntsumuru in the Volta region was the mastermind behind getting Togolese nationals into our electoral roll during his chairmanship era.

Yaw Boateng Gyan who comes from the Brong Ahafo region is said to have coordinated the influx of foreigners for registration in the Brong Ahafo region. The finger pointing is fueled by the fact that, Dr. Bawumia in his presentation on the register concentrated so much on the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions and was curious about the special NHIS registrations in the two regions.

The two former national executives are believed to be very peeved after they lost their national positions to people who were sponsored by President Mahama. Dr. Kwabena Adjei was recently in the news lamenting his neglect and and inability to pay his medical bills after he lost his Chairmanship position.

Yaw Boateng Gyan is on record to have publicly blamed former Chief of Staff and Mahama's right hand man, Prosper Bani for his defeat to Kofi Adams. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC's general secretary has in the wake of Bawumiah's revelations mounted a spirited defense against the call for a new voter register. This has left many Ghanaians wondering why the NDC and Asiedu Nketia are so keen on resisting the compilation of a new voter roll by the EC.

The largest opposition party, NPP has been leading the cause for a new voters register for the 2016 election. The party took its call a step higher when it made startling revelations of thousands of foreigners on Ghana's voter register in a recent press briefing.
