Its rather unfortunate Mr. Addison should make such comments considering the hype given him as an astute lawyer which upon a careful review and analysis of his recent comments. Does he refer to the petition originated by Mr. Acheafour to be hearsay? A petition that outlines uncertainties if a lawyer could refer to such as hearsay, I doubt if he is a credible lawyer, or perhaps her doesn't understand what constitutes hearsay. For a lawyer to describe a case that has a petitioner to be hearsay is absurd and naivety legally. His claim that the NPP is a private entity and therefore doesn't have to be investigated by the Police even when there is a petitioner until the hierarchy of the party asks the Police to do so is total ignorance. Is he trying to say private entities cannot be checked by instituted state institutions that ought to check malfeasance have no right to do so when someone complains? Why then does he say if the party finds anything untoward they would alert the Police?
He should come again and stop blowing hot air. There are critical thinkers out there.

One would think Addison would confer with both sides of the complaint, being the Party's Attorney, before coming out with such critique.

First off, there is no provision in the NPP Constitution that requires anyone to prefer internal resolution of potential crimes to direct and prompt report to the Law Enforcement Agencies. Any appeal to choose internal settlement first is only based on the mutual goodwill of the Party's members.

Secondly, why would Addison claim the report to the Police is only a hearsay, whereas it is a bona fide member of NPP who reported the case?

The right to report a possible crime in NPP is not the sole prerogative of the Party's Executives. It is the job of the Law Enforcement to investigate the case reported to it and establish whether there is a prima facie case to send up to the Courts. The Police could not simply ignore the report characterizing it only a hearsay. It could well have been a hearsay if an outsider, a non-NPP individual, reported it.

After all, the Police has not taken any measures beyond the investigative level. So, it is right within its locus to handle it as it has, thus far.

The comparison Addison made regarding the Klottey Korley case is totally flawed. If anyone reported the case in that area to the Police with relevant details that the Police should have acted upon and did not, Addison, with all his legal clout should have followed up to verify why. It may seem to him that that case has simply been dropped. It may well not have been. It might have simply been delayed. It is up to the interested parties in the case to pursue its development.

For we care, it is the truth in the allegation that folks want. So, if Freddie Blay and his cohorts did nothing wrong, let the Police investigations prove that to exonerate them.

More, Addison must understand that the NPP, even though is made up private individuals and even founded as a private entity, has certain national Public obligations, among which is keeping accurate and honest books.

One cannot say he or she would start a private organization, even unregistered with any State Institution, and go around collecting monies that are not for charity from others to misuse.

Furthermore, a National Political Party is not necessarily a private organization which must be left untouched by National Statutes. NGOs, in general, are all supposedly private. But they cannot go along flaunting basic laws of integrity upon which they are expected by their donors and other stakeholders to operate. They are all subject to Auditing, at least, for tax purposes.

Addison has shown by this piece that he only practices Law with certain condescending attitude about the intelligence of Ghanaians at large. Or, he is simply not as good an attorney that appears to be.

Monies collected by NPP to do the Party's bidding serve all the members of the Party. If any member of the Party has any reason to believe that such funds are misused, or improperly handled, that member reserves the right to call the attention of the Law Enforcement for help to find out what is going on.

The Police didn't, initiate the investigations on its own volition. It only acted upon a complaint lodged by a member of the NPP. If Addison thinks he can defend the accused in this case, he should step and declare that he is their attorney and prepare to battle the case in Court.

On the other hand, if Addison thinks, in his capacity as the NPP's Attorney there are no grounds for the complaint, he only has do his due diligence to confer with the complainant and the defenders and present a case to the Police or Court for its dismissal. His attacks on the Police and charge that the Police is doing this to satiate someone else's Political interests is unbecoming of a Lawyer of his presumed standing. The Police could sue him for defaming them.

Let me ask him this few questions. Assuming we all agree that the NPP is indeed a private institute why didn't they handle the murder of the Upper East Regional Chairman's case to determine if indeed there was criminality before officially reporting to the Police. I mean late Adam Mahama's case?
Is the NPP aspiring to lead Ghana as a nation or not? Does he refer to the NPP parliamentarians who are paid with the tax payers money who on their part equally support the party with some of such monies as a private entity that has nothing to do with the public. Is Ghana a private enterprise to be led by the NPP?
