The Police told the presiding judge that it had intelligence which point to an invasion of Accra by hardened armed robbers. This seems to be a story taken from a page of communist GDR, half a century ago. But let us grant the Police the benefit of the doubt. On the day the armed robbers were to attack Accra, the Police were seen massed up at Obra Spot and the office of the EC. Are these spots their 'intelligence' revealed the armed robbers will attack? Can you outline any infringement of your so called rights apart from your excuse and that of the cops that is a need for protection of people and property?

Had something like this happened ahead of September 16, the unfortunate young man who now has a permanent loss of one eye would have been spared. Only God knows how many more unfortunate victims (from the police and civilians) has been saved by this timely abortion of the intended demonstration.
What opponents of the government must know is that, we are already living in a free, democratic country in which all citizens have their rights and freedoms to enjoy. It is therefore an irresponsible and reckless venture for someone in Ghana to be fighting for the freedom he/she already has. No matter how much you disagree with government or any constitutional body, open, violent confrontation cannot be justified because that would be taking the law into one's own hands. There are several peaceful, non-confrontational ways to channel any disagreement with government or any constitutional body.
Even the issue at stake (whether a new voters register should be compiled?) for which the LMVCA wants to demonstrate, is a matter under a healthy discussion by all the political parties and interested individuals and CSOs. Presentations have just been submitted to the EC on this as requested by the EC. Why someone would think his/her submission is superior to those of others and must be adopted at all costs can only be madness.
At the end of the day, it boils down to leadership and the responsibility must rest with Nana Akufo Addo who is the leader of the Opposition. Demonstrations in themselves should not be a problem but when all the signs point to it being violent, then it is worrying. If the LMVCA were not planning a violent confrontation why would it promise the police that they would meet them boot-for-boot and fire-for-fire. Ever since he declared his all-die-be-die proclamation, violence has been the signature of Nana Akufo Addo. His speches are inciteful of violence and he closes his ears and eyes to his supporters who visit mayhem on his opponents. Even in his own party, a whole Regional Chairman of his party was blatantly killed by acid attack as a result of disagreements he caused within his party. Instead of convincing the electorates on account of what he can do better, he is banking on violent agitations by finding fault with anything connected to the election. He behaves as a potential coup maker looking for an opening to strike. Akufo Addo is clearly a failure in politics.
