Lack of political will to restructure ECG ourselves by demanding leaner and robust management is our problem.
We overloaded the payroll with family members and party foot soldiers so therefore we do not know who to sack in order to save our institutions then the IMF/WB takes advantage of the situation to force us to sell before they could help us. A help we DO NOT need if only we could put our feet down like how Ethiopia runs its Ethiopian Airways to become the largest and number one in Africa.
Now the people that we do not want to sack,will get sacked anyway as the US company want their 700% profit bottom line.
Ghana Telecom went down the same way as we could not sack and retrench unnecessary workers from top down and many ghost workers for political contribution to both party funds but the whites came to Ghana Telecom and had the axe fell on 3000 real and ghost workers.
And the pressure from shareholders of VODAFON who want high profit on their investment are NOT allowing the company to reinvest in Ghana, and as a result of that, the land-line project had been put on ice as if we do not need it?

This private entity will be given guarantees regarding future price increases & profits & I'll be very surprised if they are given task of rural electrification. They'll get to cherry pick only the profitable areas of electricity supply. The Ghanauan consumer & businesses are going to pay the price for this useless govt's failings. It also sends out a message that Ghanaians are incapable of managing anything. All those govt sycophants are going to learn the hard way, unless they have already stolen their fill, which would exclude all those 'foot soldiers' who'd only get poorer. Useless Mahama has set Ghana back 15 years.

Nevertheless, a transparent and independent evaluation of the current value should be obtained to prepare the government to price ECG based on its anticipated future value. My brother, ECG is not paying the power producers. ECG is owing VRA, Asogli, CENIT. Can you buy tomatos from a farmer and refuse to pay only for him to supply you another consignment? ECG should be sold.

All Ghanaians must rise up against the privatization of of ECG. The owners of the multinational corporations in the U.S. who are whites are opposed to the Negro making use of electricity, much more to use it for production. If they come in the erratic nature of power supply will increase rather than decrease.

I am sorry but I have to disagree with a lot of the comments here. In any of the advanced countries, the governments do not run any of the for-profit organizations. just think about it and see if you can name one govt department in the US, UK, Germany that makes profit...none. Most things in the US are privatized. it is only in the communist countries that the governments have state run companies. Even with them, how well are they doing; Cuba, North Korea... They are the only two communist country but then Cuba is opening up its market. Please dont say China cos China has a semi communist government that has opened the markets for private entities to run their own companies. if the government is selling ECG, that is OK so long as the $500 million does not end up in politicians pockets. Also, the Ghana government has always been screwed when it comes to negotiating contracts with international companies. The govrnment should think about Join the list of countries that uses the UN CISG. That is one way the countries like Ghana would be on a level playing field when negotating with international governments or companies.
