Andy is one of the few good guys, its just unfortunate his in this situation. his brother on countless occations approched the management of baker for trips to SA all to no avail. Andy is not a south African and was not originally sent to SA. So if he does not know anyone there, i see nothing wrong with it. pls. be smart with ur commenets

He was involved in a serious accident while on OFFICIAL DUTY. He was in coma for sometime. The company took responsibility of taking care of his treatment and is now in South Africa. The Company for which he was working as a Rotational Oil & Gas Engineer has NOW NEGLECTED HIM and left him to his fate IN A NURSING HOME IN SOUTH AFRICA. This Andy guy is bed ridden, can;t talk, eat , or communicate. The Company has taken that as an excuse to neglect him. Andy may not be from a wealthy or financially healthy family to afford daily, weekly, or monthly visits to South Africa. If they even had that much money, it is not their responsibility to be shuttling to and fro South Africa. The "whistle blower" in this matter, is only asking well meaning Ghanaians especially Government Officials (Min. of Foreign Affairs)to help this Engineer Andy, and seek justice for him. Please stop attacking the young man and his family. Attack the negligent Rich Oil & Gas Company!

I'm shock he didn't know ALL resources are available to him before he proceeded to take the job. These companies will give you a whole complete brochure with ALL contact infos. for you to study them carefully and completed them before you even receive your airline ticket/hotels. Something is not right here but who am I to say though than to help him. Yet, he needs to let some relative contact the Contact Infos. provided below. He should ACT immediately pls. He can also request Baker Hughes to fly out of SA back to the US or UK where he lives to be properly treated. He's well educated that, he should know that this is his INHERENT RIGHT under ANY LAW. He needs to get it together ASAP. His Disability Insurance should pay him over 75-80% of his weekly or monthly paycheck to enable him pay for his basic needs (NOT medical bills) and his personnel expenses like rental apartment etc. etc.

Andrew suffered severe brain brain trauma and his prognosis does not look good unless a miracle happens (and they do happen). The patient's relatives visit everyday; the Company pays for his frail care in a nursing home for terminally ill cancer patients as well. Prayers are said for all residents daily! Of course he can't eat, drink with such extensive brain damage! He is fed intravenously. The journalist is treading on dangerous grounds and can be sued by both the Company and the relatives. FACT-1: For overseas job assignment on behalf of these rich companies, they make sure your Health Insurance if fully covered etc. etc. Not only that, they will recommend you sign up for additional insurance like (a). Disability Insurance, (b). Life Insurance, (c). and Other Insurance Liabilities etc. etc. ALL to your own benefits to the unknowns and for your next of kins.
FACT-2: the story as put out by Ghanaweb does NOT make an ounce sense ...... period. If Andrew is incapable to make decisions on his own, the next of kin will be contact by Baker Hughes per the employment document (for next of kin) he signed and completed upon job offer or transfer to SA.
FACT-3: looks as if Ghanaweb wants Baker Hughes representative to be the hospital bedside baby sitting him and responding to his every needs 24/7 like they do in Ghana. Ghanaians and Ghanaweb should get thru. their heads that "this will NEVER happen" and they should get used to it. This concept by Ghs is primitivism at its worst.
FACT-4: besides Mr. Andrew is STILL being PAID and receives certain % or portion of his paycheck as we speak. This is FACT and GHs are being stressed out for NOTHING by such typical GH "yesi", "yesi" nonsense. This is why the country GH is still in dark ages behind in everything by constantly being misled by news exaggerations by those who ought to know better tasked to inform the public.
Keep us well informed and let's us know MORE about the whole story than the usual GH "yesi", "yesi" nonsensical exaggerations by some GHs.
Also, ignore the FOOL who have freaking clue about the "Right to Privacy Clause". Like you educated him and the rest of GHs; the next of KIN or Mr. Andrew family that has RIGHT to his medical records. No other choice but for Andrew to be transferred to a step down facility given his circumstances. If you are contributing to his upkeep, all well and good as friends/classmates. You are not paying for his financial upkeep at Serenity are you?? Serenity is a privately run Nursing Home and the Company takes care of his financial needs. Why would they have airlifted him to a first class hospital in the first instance??? It costs nothing less than $500 for accommodation only. Medical/surgical care is three times that! Every specialists charge separately. All you can do is to add to the prayers already offered by Serenity!! Stay well!! We are all on a journey on Mither Earth....

It's unfortunate but what the family can do is to sue the company. Please find a criminal lawyer for him. The lawyer will take 30% I wish a family member can contact me to find him a good lawyer.

Our leaders are never patriotic. They only kotow to the white man and even create conducive atmospheres for the importation of items that we can produce here in Ghana. 22 year old seeks $3.5M from Baker Hughes after oil drilling accident

Ty Book is suing Baker Hughes Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas Beaumont Division over injures he allegedly sustained while working for Hughes.

In his complaint, filed Feb. 5, Book says he was injured in May 2012 while drilling for oil.

According to Book, he was helping to pull a drill out of the ground when the pipe bent and caught his right hand in the pipe.

The accident allegedly caused a sever avulsion to Book's right thumb.

Book says the injury ended his oil drilling career and he can no longer undertake work which requires heavy lifting with his right hand.

Book says his career options are limited without the full use of his right hand. Book thinks his injuries have caused him to miss out on about $3,500,000 during the next 47 years of his working life.

Book is seeking $3.5 million in damages.

He is being represented by attorney Steven C. Barkley.
