I have copyright over every article, manuscript, painting, music etc and my permission is needed to use in some form with the exception of for private use, educational purpose and generally non-commercial purpose. Even in such circumstances, the author's consent must be saught. Please don't let us put political lens to this and get educated if we don't know. I am an advocate for showing respect for intellectual property rights and the country will develop. Stop making photocopies of books, burning cds etc. That is how the US and Europe you so much desire to go developed.

you should be arguing for the man to get his papers back. Its his work. The man helped the government. Not the other way round and should be accredited.

For that matter sueing government what a useless plot.
Professors do research to fix a situation or a problem in any country. That is why tertial institutions are independent institutions and therefore usually nonprofit organizations in the USA for example they are classified as 501c(3) under the tax code you might say the same classification as churches and in Ghana are subvented institutions. All funds to run the University, salaries and housing for professors are provided by the state.
All these including sabaticcal leaves and allowances are afforded the professors so as they could think and solve petinent social economic and engineering problems of a country with dignity of purpose.
Professors are advisors to presidents mostly pro bono in times of crises and so on.
Take the the economic recession that President Obama inherited for example it was one since the Great Depression. While Paulson and others were duggling in the numbers Nobel laureate in Economics like Joseph Stiglitz of Columbia University was advising president Obama and others like Professor Robert Reich were on MSNBC every night providing perspectives to calm the nation, so was Prof Jeffery Sachs who has visited Africa many times. These professors helped their country to overcome the recession.
Then look at what Ghanaian professor is doing taking advise from Bawumia to sue Ghanaians this guy should be fired by the Minister of Education.

The infringement of law is when you use the work without acknowledging the author. It means you are presenting the work as yours. That is what the Prof is angry about.
