How much taxes do they pay on the land, trees, minerals and other things they sell. They are all free of taxes and the Government should start collecting taxes from these chiefs. The NDC Government is so broke they can't even pay the workers and you are talking about paying chiefs in Ghana. To hell with that idea.

That's why he stated that house of Chiefs cannot exist when nobody is paid to do anything. Remember they need logistics to operate. Chiefs in the Gold Coast did not fight colonialism for an independent Ghana. In fact some Chiefs were collaborators & participated in decision-making structures under British colonial rule. After fighting colonialism & leading Ghana to independence the CPP (led by led by Dr Nkrumah), ensured that in the Constitution the powers of Chiefs were reduced to Constitutional Monarchs (Figureheads with no political powers).
Chiefs did not play any major role in the fight against colonialism & they cannot try to re-write history & claim that they did.

One major cause of corruption, which undermines our socio-economic development, stems up from that chieftaincy thing and its relationship with the activities of the colonialists in Ghana. The colonialist established and/or reinforced a privileged ruling class from among the indigenous or local group. This move, at once, reinforced and/or created the establishment and concept of two groups of indigenous, that is, privileged ruling group or chiefs and an unprivileged ruled group. The colonial ruler instructed the ruling group to transfer the resources of the indigenous people to the colonial ruler. Using the political power given by the colonial ruler, the ruling group exploited the resources of the ruled group for its own advantage, as it served the interests of the colonial rulers. Thus by this arrangement, the seed of corruption was sown and somehow institutionalized in the economy of Ghana, which continues till today. SO, THE CHIEFS HAVE BEEN THE BANE OF OUR SOCIO-ECONOMIC UNDERDEVELOPMENT, AND NOW THEY WANT TO BE PAID WITH OUR TAX MONEY. THEY HAVE NO SHAME, CRROKS!

It is out of past mentality that some people recognize you ignorantly. The authority is in the assemblyman and the keeping of order for the police. By the way there no asafos nowadays and if they misbehave the police will come and bundle them away. How did the chiefs play a major on fighting colonialism when they were instituted by the colonials?. Chiefdom was created by the Europeans for the administrative purpose. The land lords were there when the chiefs came. If there is any accord to be giving, it should go to the land lords of the traditional areas and not the chiefs. Some Chiefs in Ghana(north) don't know the history of the villages they rule. Takpo Na Widdana 11 is one of those who lacks knowledge of Takpo. This man should step down immediately to give way for a progressive individual to come in. He has no character or the charisma to lead the people of Takpo. This man could not even handle a student body of 100 how much less running the entire village.
They(chiefs) create mess when they lack the pre-requisite knowledge of the village or town. It turns to create a huge gap between the chiefs and the people they govern. They have this unduly suspicious about their sub-chiefs and the citizen of the village. They properly lack the instinctive need to reach for any kind of consolation. When such issues arise, it creates conflict between the land lords and the chiefs.
Lepowura, chieftainship position is a choice people made. This should not bring any moment of austerity. Mr. as I mentioned early, some chiefs shenanigans is what brought them to this heightened position. They don't give any respect to the people(Land Lords) who were there before they came. And these people are the custodians of the environment the chief live. They look down on their sub-chiefs because they are not educated like him. This was never so when the non-educated run the chiefdom.When they create such a disreputable environment, the people loose trust and respect for the chief.

Doc, how do chiefs spent on others when they don't have it?. I don't see the logic in this statement. It might be some chiefs and not all. Some chiefs I know steal and cheat. They threating people with land issues when no proper chief in the north owes a land. They were giving a land to build and farm on and not own it.

Houses of chiefs in Ghana are staffed by chiefs who are political animals just like members of the Christian Council and members of the clergy; they sell their souls, dignity and their people for political pocket change without a care. What role do chiefs play in the day to day operations in the towns and communities they used to manage since the era of decentralization scheme?

Our chiefs gave up their authority to political parties for recognition and temporary preferential treatment by government and they lost big time. And just like the nutured men and women in our parliament our chiefs go crawling on all fours to office of Ghana's presidency to feed off table scraps. But we cannot blame political parties for the demise of chieftaincy powers; they chose to love money without work and or wisdom and they got what is coming to them
