As an internal auditor in the early 70's
at the gcmb,sitting on the topfloor barcony was more than fun to me.But, now,a single storey floor becmes my phobia.

You're not alone. I hate it. When I was in the US, I traveled by train and buses from Chicago to New York several times: about 24hrs whereas it took just 4hrs to go by plane.

Is this a national news item that all must be aware of? Don't we need to spend time brainstorming on issues that might change the lives of people for the better? I don't see how the inability of Kwame Akuffo to fly is such a huge national problem. It may not even affect his life that much to be a concern to him, really. He is still a successful Lawyer making money, even as most Ghanaians are jobless.

Come On! Kwadwo Nyameama, my Cocoa farming neighbor at Akranteasa village, also fears flying. So, he would not even take any free offers to fly overseas. And so is my dear friend, Amadu Kangiba in Lawra, the best bicycle mechanic that I ever knew. Oh, my step-aunt Amma Tonkyenedi, from Akrofrom in the Eastern Region, is also afraid of flying. In fact, she is even afraid of traveling in ordinary vehicles. So, most of the time she would walk long distances and refuse a lift. Yet, she thrives. She cares more about how much of her produce she can sell at the Market. The fast dwindling buying power of customers has affected her income badly. Much of her commodities go rotten after long waiting on the tables and their frequent retraction. She would not even have electric power at home to keep them refrigerated in the huge deep-freezer her son in Spain sent to her. She is more afraid the empty box that the fridge has become would soon be only good enough for a hiding spot for her grand kids playing hide and seek.

But I bet all these friends of mine and many other citizens would rather like to hear us discuss, on here, issues of National import, even if it is on why our sources of Game meat has all but dried up. Barely any Snails in the Forests, or any more grasscutters in the Savannahs.

For the very first time in our Country's history, we have to import Wood to supplement local demand, not because of population explosion that is excessively demanding wood for any purpose, but because our corruption has eaten into the sustainability management of our Forests Estates to allow rampant and needless and illegal extraction of Timber by greedy, destructive folks. No wonder some have resorted to Mango Trees and Twie (Borusia Palm) to fell for rafters in their houses.

In a consequential tandem, the habitats for our Game and wildlife has almost all disappeared or dangerously altered to impinge on the sheer existence of the animals providing us Game meat. Our politicians would rather keep it that way, because it offers them the chance to control the imports of foreign Poultry and stale Meat, which only their cronies have import Licenses for. They then all share in the booty of shoving that down our throats at high profits.

Many of our Streams have permanently desiccated, stressing our populations in their supply of drinking water. The watershed areas in the Forests have all been affected to trim the flow of water to only trickle of their original forms. No wonder the Akosombo Dam and even the new one at Bui would not have enough water to turn their turbines to provide sustained Power.

Corruption has motivated the maintenance of the status quo in even designing our infrastructure to the point that we still, in this 21st Century, build open culverts for drainage, only to see them filled with trash to choke the flow of waste and rain water, resulting in avoidable floods.

Because of Corruption, we can hardly maintain a regular supply of fuel to keep our Electric grid fully engaged, despite our discovery of Oil, hence endless 'Dumsor, Dumsor'. Our private Companies all do not have enough power to continue operations to even keep the existing employee levels let alone expand to absorb newly unemployed. The Nation has gone of borrowing spree in the last few years sending us into more debt than all our previous Administrations combined. And yet, we have little to show for.

So, goes our story, on and on, and on....And this Kwame Akuffo's fear of flying is what you care to share with us?
