Some Akans think that Twi is the Ghanaian language, not a Ghanaian language. For the information of Akua Donkor and those who think like her, English is our national language. Our local languages are only dialects. I will not let somebody to impose his dialect on me, just as I will not impose mine on anybody. I know some people will say that the while man has imposed his language on us; that may be true, but history has made things so. At least the English language has been developed and is accepted the world over.I am proud of my language and I am not ready to adopt any local language as my own when I also have mine.

Stop the lies and let the people know war is inevitable as that is the only way to secure true freedom for the Akan nations. If we accept this fact then we also must know our sacrifice of a few million lives will ensure the total annihilation of all enemies of the Akan nation. People now know that the so called coup of Rawlings was nothing but as in all things a Ayigbe tribal war against the Akans camouflaged by the bullshit of a revolution against corruption. It is now clear why the intelligentsia of the Akans especially the Fantis was under the cover of darkness , false accusations and unfair prosecutions driven out of the country or killed or tortured so much so that they empty shells with broken spirits. Yes we see how even the cowardly brother of Mills react to the murder of a sitting Akan prince . We learn from history how the Nazi criminals were able to secure the assistance of the Jews in Warsaw to kill and oppress their own people and today we see the same in the likes of Gen Mosquito , and a few other glorified idiot ministers serving in this pepeni/ayigbe govt today. Our people have been instructed to exercise patience so with this new bio-metric registration we will know who exactly our traitors are as no Akan will vote for them except the backstabbing criminals amongst us. Pepeni and aygbe have formed their anti Akan alliance with the assistance of their satellite tribes such as the Adas , some Gas , and help from the neighboring countries , we see that they have armed themselves with guns hoping in the confusion after the next election to commit genocide and massacre as many Akans as possible but we are ready and organized. God is with us and we shall surely be victorious and the veils of lies and deception no longer cover our eyes . Anyone like me they dream and fantasize how we shall be betrayed by our own people or take confidence in non Akans like our gullible did 30 years ago but now our people are vigilant . We shall never be the slaves and servants of their islamised boko harem Ghana but we shall fight in the hills and valleys and never surrender. We have many men of achievement even global fame such as Kofi Annan who by the way can never be invited to be president because of the anti Akan agenda , yet JJ masquerades around because he is the hero who the ayigbe consider to have cunningly defeated the Akans . Now he and his henchmen prepare the final sakawa scam to ensure poverty and misery for the Akans . He has enstooled pepeni omanhene mahama who goes to the UN to fight for Muslims and Palestinian rights instead of encouraging investments and good relations with our natural allies since Vasco De Gama in the west.We now see the NPP in futile attempt to clean house of all traitors but its already too late as that party has been infiltrated and infested so much so that its now an impossible feat. Sethoo! I think you want peoples reading your post to take you seriously right? Your proposition and justification is nonsense and unsustainable. I don't know if you understand the word “marketing”, “targeting”, and “segmentation”. If you understand these three words you’ll know these individuals are practicing what they considered marketing and its necessary strategies.
Vastly, we also have the highest population of illiteracy in Ghana came from those areas not because they don’t have the money to educate themselves but the paramount reasons best known to them. I’ll not be grudging anyone for their idealist views in so far as it is cogent and reasoning.
Besides, unlike other dialect, the Akan dialect is probably simpler when it comes to speaking and as I have mentioned before higher population, hence if necessary that other entrepreneurs cannot ignore that buying block therefore is necessary that they design marketing strategies focusing on that segment of the market. And this should not be misunderstood beyond microeconomic view. Your thought!

Let every Chinese is born with Mandarin as the mother's tongue but since it is spoken widely, now babies are introduced to this language from infancy at the expense of the other 291 dialects. Africans are just too tribalistic to do away with empty pride for our common good.

When I want to interact with her, I will speak my dialect while she peaks hers. Will we understand each other? It is true English is someone else's language, but that is what we those have been to school have in common. So we use it to interact. Without it, there will be chaos. Are some of you aware Mandarin which we call Chinese is rather official China language? China has 292 indigenous languages but for developmental sake and country cohesion, Mandarin was adopted as official language because like Ghana with Twi speaking majority, most Chinese speak Mandarin so it was adopted as the official language.

What is wrong if Twi becomes official language? Ghana will never discard English as it has become part of our culture and English being a dominant language in commerce, we will continue to learn it for international purposes but there is nothing wrong in having Twi also as official language.

Madam Akua Donkor's emphasis was on the phrase "mother tongue" Many people express themselves better in their native languages, and are able to contribute meaningfully in a debate . That is why we have interpreters to help non speakers of the language. On the question of Akan/Twi being a national language, the opponents are fighting a losing battle , they just love to play the ostrich. Akan/twi is the unofficial language in Ghana and among Ghanaians overseas, like it or not. The phrase " national or official language " scare most of us because it implies that every body would be required to speak Akan in Ghana to the neglect of other native tongues which define a peoples identity. I think Ghanaians will be comfortable if the phrase "common language " is used.

The continued use of English is a barrier to the progress of our country - we need to learn it as it is the medium of formal education so as to access knowledge. Why not remove this barrier so that we access knowledge directly through our own indigenous languages?

One of the regrets(pretty much the only one) of Dr Mahathir of Malaysia was adapting their local language (malay) as their national language. They re-wrote all their literature in malay only to realise that they didn't have half of the words so they were pretty much using english, just spelt differently.Eg. komputer, kable. talk about the inefficiencies of duplication of efforts. He realised that most of the drivers of economic development in his country were multi nationals who mostly spoke english, so students , no matter how smart they are were not employable as they lacked the ability to communicate with the potential employers. He therefore spent the last quarter of his premiership reversing the trend back to english. Now we want to go back to the same mistake even with the benefit of hindsight?

This is no longer a subject for debate, it should be forced down our throats whether we like it or not. When you cast pearls before swine they trample on them because they know not of it's value; that is the situation we find ourselves in today. Personally, my preference would be to adopt Akan or Ewe or both, they should be developed and taught up to the tertiary level. Akan is the predominant language in Ghana and Ivory Coast; Ewe is also spoken in Togo and Benin. By the way, I am a Ga man but my love for my country overrides any tribal sentiments I harbour.

Normally such classes are organized for children of Ghanaian immigrants but not a full course at a university.

Sometimes too such courses are orgainzed for SPIES that will come to Ghana to work as Peace Corps etc.

This is one of the advantages if i mean to say more it might be full.Even with these much phdees and mastersees look at Ghana howmuch there was not.

Do you notice that we are using '3' and 'c' to replace some characters in Akan BECAUSE the English DID NOT CREATE those characters for the us?

Me nua, if we are writing Kwaku Ananse's stories, no language apart from Twi is the most appropriate. But try writing Physics, Chemistry, Maths Biology, ICT books in Twi and you'll see the problem. We will have to invent a TOTALLY new Twi because the current Twi has not got just 0.1% of science, maths and technology terms.

So why re-invent the wheel? Why invent a new Twi that is 99% English when the original (English) is free to use?

Now back to our Twi:

In USA alone there are over 500,000 Ghanaian professionals who attended school /had higher education in Ghana, where they used English. Of cousre some of them also learnt their mother language, depending on the mindset of their parents. How could they do that in the 'devilsh' English language?

In short : due to the numerous tribes in Ghana, it is not appropriate to choose the language of any tribe as the national language. We need a neutral language, plus every pupil MUST learn their mother language at school.

The English man has grown his language and made it easy to use, so we just pick it up and use it, ignoring ours. There is nothing that we make on our own. She is 100% right. We must use the Twi language as the national language because almost every Ghanaian can speak it. This is not a tribal matter, it is a serious matter.

My emphasis here is, I expect and would love to hear Mahama speak to the public in Dagaare, Frafra, Dagomba, Gonja, Kusasi, Bono, Assnte, Fante, Ga, Ewe and so on. He is lucky he was exposed to the different local languages due to the nature of his father's job. I loved to learn many Ghanaian languages but did not get the chance when I was young. Ghanaian local languages were not and are still not taught in schools. Some schoolmates and classmates, who could speak other local languages, were able to have more friends than me. Please do not think by speaking Enghlish will make you acceptable into the Global world, far from that. The Englishman laughs or jokes with your English accent. Same is true for Francophone and Anglophone nationals living abroad. The question usually asked is, what is your national language? Why is it English or French? The German Chancellor understands English but she speaks German through an interpretor to the English Prime Minister. The Russians, Chinese, Japanese etc do the same for the sake of protocol. Ghana can have one or two national languages that will be acceptable to all Ghanaians.

However, I would not advocate making Twi the National Language for the simple fact that Akans are not the dominant population in the other 5 Regions of Ghana where other languages are spoken. Africans from different countries communicate in either English or French because of colonialism. What other language would they use if they are from different countries. The same thing applies to different ethnic groups in Ghana.
English and French are global languages whether you like it or not. The fact that many Ghanaians can speak the language assists them when they travel to counties like the United Kingdom, Canada or U.S.A.

We will not rejecting the English, and it will still be tought in schools like all the other foreign languages. Normally, if you want to oppress people, you force them to speak your language, reject their culture / identity, and adapt to your way of living. This is exactly what happened during the colonial era. We adapted the English way of life and abandoned ours. And now almost all African countries have foreign languages as their official language. But in Europe, almost all the countries that were colonized still use native language as their official language.

These Twi speaking people in Ghana show primitivity when they refer to English as not our national mother language in this time of life in the present world. Yes, they really show that they are village minded and inward looking people indeed.

Is it a thing of tribalism or primitivity that had blinded them when they refer to Twi. Ghana has many languages and if they, the Twi speaking people are wise they could cheerish Fnglish because it is clear that pressing for Twi to be accepted as a national language will cause confusion in Ghana when even we have not solved the problem of electricity.

The mindset of TRYING to force Twi on people is clearly not aceptable. It is a language that people can choose to speak if one will just like any other language but the way some foolish tribal bigots in the nation are trying to present it create awful feelings.

The education minister Naana Agyemang, also full of village mentality just like the Akua Donkor another disgrace to Ghana are all telling Ghana where to go with education. What is the motive behind their calling for twi to be national language, when those who love education never complain of the difficulty in the usage of English language.

It is a fact English is not our mother tongue, but is twi our mother tongue? May be it could be for certain tribes, but then is it a mother tongue for those tribes that were not born into twi as their mother tongue? You are real foolish and stupid people you twi tribes with this tribal mentality. You have really disgrace yourselves.

No wonder here in Europe most twi speaking people do speak twi with any black people they see. This village minded behaviour make many black foreigners see Ghanaians as fools. Unfortunately, our culture and language are going down the drain. English is an international language which should be taught at school but that should not override our native language. Is a shame that a lot of Ghanaians (mostly youth) struggle to write in the native language. I have live in UK for half of my life and l personally feel ashame of myself for my inadequacy in my native language. The English people laugh at our accent when we speak. It is mistaken to think that spoken english is an evidence of literacy and somehow a proof of intellectualism. Ghanaians and Africans must come out of the cave and be proud of our language and culture.
