AUTHOR : SULE ---------------In the 8 years that the Kufuor administration was in power, the country went HIPC and the NPP gov't put in place the needed policies and programs as well as pragmatic social intervention programs, and they made it clear that, they were not going to deal with these Bretton woods institutions. The economy grew and as at the time the Kufuor gov't was leaving power in 2008, Ghana was rated as a lower middle income economy.
In comes the dimwitted NDC gov't, and the results are there for all to see. During the administration of Kufuor, the Bretton woods institutions were there, but they had to beg to get Kufuor's gov't to listen to them and what they had on offer.
The current situation is just like the 80's and 90's when we had the PNDC and NDC gov'ts.
It is an undisputable fact that, the P(NDC) gov't does not have the mental capacity, acuity and the requisite brain power as well as the drive to achieve anything. They are simply inept and grossly incompetent and this is an undisputable fact. Governance is a serious business not for dimwits and the earlier, we all came to terms with this basic fact, the better it would be for our socio-economic developmental agenda.

CALL FOR 100% ELECTRICITY TARRIF INCREMENT IS TO MAKE US PAY FOR THE POWER BARGES TO THE BENEFIT OF ITS NDC SPONSORS
The average price people in the U.S. pay for electricity is about 12 cents per kilo watt-hour(kwh) (Context: A typical U.S. household uses about 908 kWh a month of electricity.)
Source: Energy Information Administration U.S.
This amounts to $108.96 @GHc3.8 = GHc414.05 per month. Currently Ghanaians are paying an average of (GHp46)i.e 12.105 U.S cents per KWH. This when monthly average consumption is equated to US will amount to a monthly average consumption of 908kwh@ GHp46, amounting to GHc 417.69 per month.i.e. more than the average cost in U.S.
The power barges by KARPOWER will be charging ECG GHp 65 kwh, whiles VRA is currently charging GHp15 and Independent Power Producers (IPP's) i.e. Asogli and co are taking GHc25.
Now according to PURC there are seeking an increase in tarrifs for electricity, with ECG seeking 101 percent increase; VRA wants 108 percent increase while GRIDCo seeks 31.26 percent, and if the three are computed it will result in over 100 percent increase in electricity tariff.
This means that the average electricity bill in Ghana wil jump to 2 times what people in US pay.
Do you know why?,its beacuse someone has gone to sign an agreement to the beneifit of Karpower and their sponsors in goverment @GHc 65 kwh and they want you to pay for it. Why should Ghanaians suffer this and also which investor will choose Ghana over a country like the US to create jobs for us, if our electricity bill remains this high.

Just recently, it was in the news some communities which were connected to the national grid under the rural electrification program were enjoying electricity without paying for it. The former of Energy Minister Oteng Adjei when asked to speak to those matters said, some people wanted to dent his image.
As to how asking of communities which had been connected to the national grid and enjoying electricity but were not paying for it, could amount to denting his image, is yet to be explained as of today.
So the question we are asking is, does John Dramani Mahama know of the communities under the rural electrification program that have been connected to the national grid and are enjoying electricity but are not paying for it?
Would he describe such instances also as power theft? Does he know or does he have data on the energy demands of such communities and the cost implication of such, on the pricing of electricity tariffs?
I know some would question the relevance of asking these questions with respect to powering our rural communities and whether by asking these questions, it is suggestive of the fact that, these communities should not be connected to the national grid so they also enjoy electrical power.
The answer is far from that. They should have, and enjoy power, just as equally as any and everybody else in this country, but in a situation where they are not paying for such power, and the overall cost is borne by a few, the exigencies of the time requires we begin to think, think, think and see how best other approaches can be deployed to address these challenges whilst ensuring adequacy in power generation and supply to provide the requisite infrastructural platform for growth.
Just recently we read that a rural community in Rwanda, had embraced solar power at a cost of less than $25 million dollars to generate 8.5MW, creating jobs for over 300 people and also powering over 10,000 homes in a rural community in Rwanda. It was a myjoyonline report of 24th November, 2015 under the headline, "How Africa's fastest Solar power project is lighting up Rwanda". The project was completed in less than 6 months from February to July, 2014. Amongst the advantages of that project was according to the report, it was cheaper than the main electrical power. The environment for success was an excellent business environment with no to negligible corruption and a profound sense of urgency facilitating the completion of the project in record time.
In Ghana however, John Mahama and his NDC family and friends looting brigade via Alfred Agbesi Woyome will steal over $30 million dollars and say, power theft is the cause of high tariffs.
We have not even talked about obsolete equipment alone, which leads to system losses and therefore also goes to increase tariffs, because funds for retooling and investment in energy efficient systems, would rather be looted and stolen by the John Mahama NDC gov't and it's horde of stealing brigands as opposed to ensuring the appropriate infrastructure deficits are addressed to forestall the economic challenges facing the country.
And we have a President who says "konkonsa" from illegal connection is the cause of high tariffs?
If this is not the most infantile propositions from John Dramani Mahama, then one cannot begin to imagine what it is.
Clearly, there is no way John Mahama can lead this country and it is crystal clear, he must be fired massively at the ballot box in 2016. His gov't is the greatest joke of the century and by far the worst since Ghana gained independence. It is not subject even to debate.

I am sad for president John Mahama. It looks like he doesn't know the causes of any of the problems facing the Ghanaian economy. Very sad indeed. That is many people say that he is incompetent
The problem u not the power theft. It is issue of political appointeed not paying utility bills but libing on a big wage bill. I feel the Mahama is short sighted and narrow minded who cannot think outside the box
If Ghana has no money and has stopped allowance for nurses and teachers, then it is time for the north and volta to pay full electricity bill and cancel educational subside for the north. Ghana has no money.
Without technical no how.
