It is difficult to understand why we spend so much money on funerals. Do we want show we care for the victims' family or we want to show off our wealth? We have really lost the whole essence of funerals.

Mrs. Linda Ofori Kwafo is baffled at government’s lackadaisical approach to pursuing beneficiaries of such monies.

The anticorruption campaigner was speaking on the Super Morning Show, Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in connection with the announcement by Deputy Attorney-General Dominic Ayine government that Gh?14.5million had been retrieved as part of the illegal money paid to contractors of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA).

President Mahama at a conference organized by NACAP on Monday, also disclosed that about 300 people have either been convicted or are facing trial for corruption-related offenses in Ghana since 2013.

“It is disheartening…We need a breakdown of the information they put across there,” Mrs. Ofori Kwafo retorted. According to her, “ the GYEEDA case is small”.

She recalled the “good cases” won in court by former Attorney-General Martin Amidu in which individuals and organisations that benefited from such wrongful payments were ordered by the Supreme Court to return the monies to the state.

The Supreme Court in June 14, 2013, ordered Waterville Holdings Ltd. to return to the state in excess of 21million Euros obtained illegally arising out of claims it brought against the state in 2009. A week after, the court again ordered businessman Alfred Woyome to refund a total of Gh?51.2 million judgement debt payment he received between 2009 and 2010.

The Court in another landmark judgment on July 29, 2014, ruled that Spanish-based Company, Isofoton pay back to the state a total of $325,472 and the interest accrued on the amount since 2011- the year in which the monies were paid.

“The amounts involved are huge…we need such monies to move our economies forward and government officials are silent on them,” the NACAP Executive Director questioned.

“Civil Society Organisations want to make the recovery of such monies…they should give us the detailed breakdown for us to know the progress that we are making.

“We cannot go and collect the monies; the state has a responsibility…we need the resources,” she demanded.

She hints the Civil Society Organisations will not hesitate to choose the option of “going to court and demanding for accountability so far us government’s responsibility in the fight against corruption is concerned”.

“We have also signed onto the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which actually mandates us to be able to recover stolen assets that have been hidden outside this country. If within the borders of our own nation we cannot retrieve monies then how well would we able to retrieve [stolen state funds lodged] in Swiss banks and the rest?

“It’s no wonder, therefore, when citizens say that…they don’t actually have trust and confidence in government’s ability to fight corruption,” she told Kojo Yankson, host of the Show.

Fellow Ghanaians, be aware that “Difficulties” are part of life, so it is for a growing nation like ours. It takes sacrifices to build a nation and not laziness and gluttony to consume and destroy what we have here and now. It is obvious that the gluttonous opposition NPP has nothing to clinch on for their campaign; so they think using “corruption” as a slogan will earn them some moral image.

The question is “Who is more corrupt in Ghana than these Dankwa / Busia folks?”

They took bribe to overthrow Dr Kwame Nkrumah in 1966 this is a true declassified document. The Traitors are ( Busia, Kotoka, JB Danquah, and Edward Akuffo Addo)

As for Kuffour he is the worst ever. He crowned corruption and hailed it as the first born of Adam. For him it is “kick back” - All we saw in eight years of Kuffour in office was day light robbery of properties and owning them at all cost. He supervised a regime of no shame, penetrated into state reserve lands and forcefully paid peanut for them. Siphoning from state account and redenominated the currency with impunity. They demonstrated arrogance and excess abuse of power. It is unbelievable how Kuffour`s numerous presidential initiatives headed by Allan Kyeremanteng, all ended up in “MATREKO WO” island. None of them prospered just like his mentor Dr. Abrefa Busia

Busia took to the presidency with too much talking and did nothing; He initiated policies and executed none of them. Whilst Dankwa descendants were busy and seriously siphoning from state coffers to enrich and entrenched their families and well wishers. Thank God the then military saw all these dishonesty, nepotism, neo-colonialism and indiscipline growing from these arrogant nation wreckers and non entities who seek power and don’t know what to do with it than selling what has been built

Education is nothing to them; for them to get to the top means how much money you can exhibit or show to the public but careless about how they make their monies, they are greedy and enjoy backbiting, destroying, killing and make shameless utterances, bullying, joining occult and make use of cannabis; these days cocaine. Many of them have no academic certificate.

Too much Trivialmindedness has engulfed with these so called Dankwa/Busia descendants who have never in their lives said the truth nor demonstrated maturity. They always portray silliness, low self esteemed and endemic mental slavery. What is so worrying is that they don’t mind destroying others because they want power. Attacking and distracting leaders without sound alternative is not only sickening but also portrays immaturity and emptiness of these cohorts. They just want to do or say something to grab unnecessary attention. They have no solution???. if you test their opinion to deep analysis, you always end up by cheap and shallow political biases and unfounded allegations

Has he ever thought that when it comes to funerals we have got our priorities absolutely wrong? Why do we spend more on dead people than living ones? Should this even be a political debate? I have a wife and a son in the UK and the funerals were simple and straightward. I had to take care and educate my three children after the death of my wife. My son left three children who had to be taken care of 26 yrs down the line. Tell me Doc, where is the sense to spend thousands of pounds for these funerals, create a debt on my head, and leave the education of my children and grandchildren to my faith in God? Doesn't the so-called Doctor know that the churches in Ghana are part of the suffering of the people? Instead of these churches teaching people that whether you put your faith in God or not you need to work and focus to make ends meet, they rather teach them an archaic law of tithing and faith in God solving their problems, give them riches and wealth. And you, a MP has the nerve to talk about financial problems in respect of funerals and offerings in church. What of education, health, the economy, children selling on the streets wherever you go in the country. YOU ARE NOT FIT TO BE AN MP LET ALONE A ROLE MODEL. FOOL, GO TO THE ANT, LEARN ITS WAYS AND BE WISE.

If this assholes who priorities funeral and church donations are the ones we expect to govern us, then It will take 3 generations of 26million Ghanaians to differentiate between good and bad!

I don't blame him he would always get people to be in the scorching sun to vote for him, they are the people creating the impression that Ghanaian professional are only title holder, rather than solving problems, giving you opportunity out of the number in the house to talk to Ghanaian on serous issues and as Dr you think that is what we expect from you as an educated person and you expect colleagues outside Ghana to respect you, God have mercy on Ghana.
