More importantly, it is not just the presidency that needs redemption, the whole cadre of political hacks who form the nucleus of Ghana's political class are incompetent. If you gave them a competent leader, there would still be very little competence coming from this class to help run this godforsaken country. This benighted land is for the dogs, and going to hell in a hand basket. We have fucked it up, royally (since Nkrumah was overthrown) and there's no light at the end of the dark tunnel.

Naturally our nation's problems lies with the whole population, and not with a single leader. My reasons are basically that the population ought to be aware of their responsibilities as citizens and show great respect towards each other as that is the sine qua non to the achieving of the expected goals.

In the first place Casely Hayford is uncalculatively suggesting a thing that can not work with a democracy in Ghana. One may ask;- why could not it work? The reasons are many; In Ghana's democracy, leadership is not based on a single leader, meaning a leader can be undermined by his people if they disagree with him over policies- this practice is done in secrect.

It can even be indirectly done by the officials at govt institutions who also disagree with the leader's policies. I call this mentality as village primitive mindset which every citizen of Ghana is aware of and yet hypocritically refuse to acknowledge as a big problem in our political system.

Sydney thinks he knows better of every happenings in our today's politics, but I just want to remind him that there is truth in the saying that ''it is easily said than done''In our political life we always raised leaders and put them there only to say later that they should have done better, meaning we are disapointed of their performances, without looking at many factors.

I don't believe Annan is the solution, looking at the political landscape in Ghana where tribal and political bigotry or political underminig [fallacy]plays a major role thus never permit any person/leader to achieve goals if even he has good policies.

Kofi Annan can not be hard with the people since going to the FM stations and bitterly criticising and abusing him is not a difficult thing for the people to do. Ghanaians don't respect leaders, and as long as this immorality lingers there can be nothing good to expect. Development and progress flourishes in an atmosphere of respecting each other.

The developed economies have a ground prepared with political morality and maturity hence cooperation in their political arena. No tribalism in any form where some tribe is pressing smartly that their language should be used as a national one.[ how can twi be thought in primary 1-3]If Sydney cannot say anything about this then it is better to leave Kofi Annan out of the question.

There are more people in Ghana who will do better than him, but still the problem lies with the peoples' mentality which is not constructive to support even a leader of good vision for our nation. Do not pretend for it is clear that our solution lies in the development of our political mindset.

The so called political hatred that we had alloewd to penetrate into the fabric of our political culture is the main probem we are facing now, but not a political figure as a leader of whether either party A or party B.

Kofi Annan could become a viable Presidential candidate but only with a neutral or third alternative bloc Party. That means he may have to be a Candidate for a Party that is not already registered to contest the Elections.

He could, for instance, neither be a NPP, NDC, CPP or PPP Candidate.
If any third bloc Party emerges and chooses him for a flagbearer, then he could easily win and rule excellently because he would owe no allegiance to any of the old hags in the existing Parties.

This still portrays how vulnerable our Political system is, as it strongly suggests that the choice of a President alone is what it takes to solve our problems.

How about the Parliament and the Judiciary? We seem to have ceded too much Power to the Executive, something our Constitutional Scholars ought to immediately check for rectification.

What we have had for a while is an imperial Presidency. Our Presidents are given too much latitude to over-extend themselves, and control the flow of resources in and out of the Government. This is why folks like Akufo-Addo would risk death to become a President of Ghana, not because they are exceptionally patriotic. They are enticed by the Pomp and Galantry and Wealth-Command that easily attach to the Presidency. And the massive Corruption in the Nation is held in close intimacy with such Presidency as well.

It is therefore time for us to amend the Constitution to clip down the wings of the Presidency, especially in the matters of allocating resources, and demanding accountability.
