More banks with less regulation by the Central Bank is a poison pill. Bank of Ghana is either helpless, clueless or just condescending to the ignorance of politicians. Why on earth would BOG sit down for commercial banks to invest 99% of their deposits on bonds issued by the government at huhudious rates. What is the incentive for any bank in Ghana now to do any true commercial banking? I wonder if the BOG even has any required reserves right now. Banks in Ghana are now operating as brokerage firms, even if they claim they are commercial banks. Mahama, Tekper and Wampah constitute a very dangerous trio for the economy of Ghana.
